About This Role
We’re seeking a detail-driven, intellectually curious Research Assistant to research designed to map and decode the lived experiences of African professionals across global labor markets.
Keyhole is more than a study. It’s a dynamic insight engine, using structured research to explore how African professionals navigate culture, competition, connectivity, compensation, and compliance in the workplace. Our goal? To reimagine hiring systems, challenge global bias, and inform more inclusive labor policies through robust, data-rich storytelling.
As Research Assistant, you’ll help bring rigor, empathy, and structure to every phase of the project – from survey development and data collection to insight generation and stakeholder engagement.
What You’ll Do
Survey & Instrument Design
Support the development and refinement of Keyhole’s mixed-methods instruments Draft, test, and iterate survey questions based on Pathway Identifiers and Study Dimensions Ensure survey design supports inclusive, bias-aware, and context-relevant data collection Data Collection & Coordination
Oversee participant outreach, onboarding, and experience across online surveys Monitor incoming data for quality, consistency, and ethical compliance Track demographic and industry representation to ensure diverse participation Analysis & Synthesis
Clean, code, and organize both quantitative and qualitative datasets Conduct basic statistical analysis and assist with cross-tabulations by Contextual Modifiers (e.g., gender, region, experience) Help surface early patterns, gaps, and surprising insights from the data Documentation & Reporting
Maintain rigorous documentation of methodologies and research decisions Draft clear, engaging memos and briefs to communicate findings internally Contribute to the whitepaper structure, copy, and data visualizations Platform & Public Engagement Support
Assist in tagging and interpreting insights for the Keyhole web dashboard Help prepare for external presentations, roundtables, or webinars Stay updated on labor and employment trends to contextualize Keyhole’s findings Who You Are

Comfortable with Google Sheets, Notion, and basic survey platforms (e.g., Typeform, KoboToolbox) Some exposure to statistical tools (Excel, R, Python, SPSS – any is fine) Experience with qualitative data handling (coding open responses, thematic tagging) Ability to write clean documentation and translate data into clear insights Experience & Background
1–2 years in research, social innovation, or data-heavy roles (professional or academic) Previous experience with survey design or fieldwork coordination Bonus: Background in economics, sociology, psychology, labor studies, or tech policy Even bigger bonus: Familiarity with African labor trends, digital hiring platforms, or inclusive HR practices What Makes This Role Special
