Activity 1: Set up RFD900x
In this seciton of the lab we learned the specifications of the RFD900x and learned how to engage it. We learned how to properly sync the information into the computer, and how to get the ground module and air module talking.
We eventually got the Air and Ground module communicating, and further testing this by sending a “Hello world!” prompt to the neighboring RFD900x through PuTTY. We were successful in communicating, but had some troubles originally because we entered in our values (the BAUD and the NetID() wrong initially.
From here we opened mission planner had to flash a firmware specific to the Believers we will be flying onto mission planner. This is due to the Believers being unique in the sense of how they are controlled compared to any pre modified firmwares on mission planner.
Once this was complete, we had to test the ground control connection. If done properly, we should have the information from the cube, that is connected to the ground control, displaying information. This was successful on the first try, and the cube relayed attitude, altitude, a compass, and more onto the screen.
This lab overall was useful to my knowledge within this field. Before this lab, I did not have knowledge of how to flash a custom firmware into ground control, and also how to relay information between comms. Now, I am familiar with all the software and data, so if I come across it again, I will know how to test and setup comms, download information, and flash firmware into ground control.
