Lab 07 - DATX Setup and Modification

In this lab, I modified and configured the DATX controller to meet Windracers’ operational standards. Our current Taranis controllers include unnecessary switches and default software that differ from the Windracers configuration, which can make flight operations more complex and introduce potential safety risks.

Hardware:
The original Taranis controller contained too many switches so we opened up the back of the controller and proceeded to unscrew, remove, and hot glue the free pieces to the inside of the controller shell, out of the way. This allows us to keep the switches still connected to the controller, but out of sight and out of mind. This mitigates risk and allows the user to be more efficient.
This process was not difficult as it took simple skills to remove each piece. It was interesting seeing the electronic parts within the controller,, as well as how easy it all come apart for how complicated it looked.

Software:
I mainly worked on the hardware today, however, I overlooked the work on the software my group did and learned this:
We acquired an SD card that we connected to the computer, which we proceed to flash the software “EdgeTX” onto the current software on the remote “OpenTX”. This process was done efficiently and we had no problems in doing so. The SD card was reinserted into the remote and the software was updates.
I now know which software the wind racer requires, and if needed in the future, I know how to apply that software to a controller that does not have it installed.
