Fire training - Day 1

March 27, 2021
Today was my first day of training with the Mununjali Mens Group located in Beaudesert.
The day started off with a smoking ceremony from the elders, followed by a yarning circle where we were all introduced to one another and heard from our trainer, Leeton, in regards to things that we will learn and see on our walk later in the day.
When walking country, we walked a section of the national park on Tambourine Mountain. During this time we learnt the different areas of vegetation, and what types of fires are required to help it thrive and kill off the non-native species, but also to return the areas back into a seasonal growth state to ensure adequate food and shelter for the native wildlife is upkeep.
Few more training sessions to come in the coming months, where we will learn things like fire plans, fire behaviour and, as well as hopefully the completion of the necessary training and certification to be considered as volunteer fire fights with the Rural Fire Service to assist in back burning following cultural and country best practices.
Thanks for reading and have a great day.
Peace.
