Lymphoma (LSA)

Signalment and Clinical Signs:
Canine:
Boxer, Basset, Rottweiler, Golden Retriever, Bernese Mountain Dog, Cocker Spaniel, St. Bernard, Scottish Terrier, Airedale, Bulldog
Middle-aged to older (6-9 years old)
Feline:
Siamese, FeLV positive
Bimodal (2 years old or 10-12 years old)
Diagnosis:
Cytology (diagnostic in 80-90% of dogs, less for cats)
Histology +/- Immunohistochemistry (IHC)
Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) of antigen receptor rearrangements of lymphocytes (PARR)
Clonality Assay
Diagnostic Assessment:
Anatomic Types
Multicentric (80-85% of dogs)
Alimentary - solitary, multifocal or diffuse (30-70% of cats)
Mediastinal (90% of FeLV positive cats)
Extranodal - renal, cutaneous, neural, ocular, etc.
Phenotypic Types (flow cytometry or IHC)
B cell - CD79a (75-80% of dogs)
T cell - CD3
Null (neither B nor T)
Histologic Grade (biopsy in dogs often not performed because most are high grade)
Low
Intermediate
High (80% of dogs, >55% of cats)
