How to Use

Add your Search Engine ID and Google API Key to

In the Image Search table below, add/edit a query (this should be a word or short phrase like you’d enter into

images.google.com⁠

)

Click the Get Image button. This will invoke the googleImageSearch() function and populate the Image column with the first URL found by Google Images.

Optional Parameters:

Image Type: Choose whether your want the image to be a photo, a stock image, animated, etc.

Dominant Color: Choose which color you’d like the image to be (e.g. blue, red, green).

Image Size: Choose how large you’d like the image to be.

Usage Rights: Choose whether you’d like to find images from the Public Domain, etc.

File Type: Choose whether you’d like a jpg, png, or gif.

Safe Search: Choose whether to turn SafeSearch on or off.

Rank: Choose which image from the list of images you want to be returned (e.g. if 4 is selected, it will return the 4th image from the list of images)

Tips

Use buttons. Rather than having a column calculate directly, use a button with the modifyrows() formula. This way, you can manually change the imageURL if you want.
