We’ve identified well over 300 separate movements all trying to accomplish the same thing: an economy that works for all life on earth. Most of these are siloed off from one another and don’t know the others exist. Part of the reason there are so many is that so many people have independently come to understand that real change comes through the economy. They put their own spin or perspective on the How this would be done, and put an adjective in front of Economy to describe it.
That’s where you get care economy, gift economy, circular economy, regenerative economy, resource based economy, etc. Wellbeing Economy is an umbrella term that captures the spirit of all of them as they are all an attempt to prioritise the wellbeing and flourishing of people and planet over metrics that cause extractive and survival mindsets, like GDP. In some sense, every single movement, organisation, and community out there that is anti-extraction economics is part of the overall wellbeing economy movement (but keep in mind some of these are much more effective than others.)
If Wellbeing Economy is the outcome we are looking to achieve, how we get there is by building community wealth (instead of private equity), which is an umbrella term for all the tactics and strategies we use. @Community Wealth Building
is a particularly effective subset and specific strategy for building community wealth, as are Social Enterprises and Cooperatives. This list is a work in progress. We are working on curating and ranking these movements by size, resources, impact, and traction. Please note that this list is by no means comprehensive. If you have one to add, please go to
