This Week’s Bible Story
The Empty Tomb (Mark 16) Jesus offers us the greatest gift. We can accept Jesus’ gift of forgiveness by repenting or saying “no” to sin and by believing in Jesus.
Memory Verse: “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” JOHN 3:16
Check-in + Worship
As kids check in, invite them to join their parents in the Auditorium during worship. Once the worship set ends, wait in the back for kids to join you and lead them back to the Zion Kids area.
Easter Egg Hunt
We will invite kids to have a seat at the tables in the quad to decorate their Easter Egg Hunt bags. Please make sure their name is on their bag. While they’re working, we’ll pass out snacks. Once they’re done, we will start the Easter Egg Hunt in the quad. Connect
Let each kid answer today’s icebreaker question: What’s the best gift you have ever received?
Bible Story
Look up Mark 16 and tell the Bible story in your own words.
Key Story Points:
Sunday morning, some women went to put burial spices on Jesus’ body. They knew a big stone was covering the tomb’s entrance and wondered how they would move it. When they arrived, the stone had already been moved, Jesus’ body was gone, and there were angels in the tomb! “Jesus is alive!” the angels said. “Go tell His disciples.” The women told the disciples, and Peter and John ran to Jesus’ tomb to see for themselves. All they found were Jesus’ burial cloths. They went back home, confused. Later, the disciples were gathered together in a room. They were talking about what had happened, when Jesus appeared to them. They were terrified. They thought He was a ghost. “Don’t worry,” said Jesus. “See My hands and feet. It’s Me! Touch Me! Go on! You can’t touch a ghost. And ghosts don’t eat either, but I’m feeling really hungry.” So He ate some fish. Then He taught them. “The Scriptures are clear,” He said. “The Messiah was supposed to suffer and die, and then be raised from the dead.” “Now tell the world what you have seen. Let everyone know that their sins can be forgiven!” Debrief
At the end of the teaching session there will be a response time where kids will have an opportunity to start a relationship with Jesus. Make sure to connect with any kids in your group who made that decision. Before you begin the activities below, lean in to what the Holy Spirit might want to do during this time. Everything else is secondary.
Discussion Questions:
Why do you think Jesus was willing to give his life for us? How does that make you feel? Prayer Time
Close your small group time by praying with your kids. This week’s prayer focus is on THANK YOU PRAYERS. Ask the kids in your group, “What is something good that you can thank God for?” Take time to pray for each of the things that were shared.)
Activity
Invite kids to decorate their binoculars using the materials provided. Remind them that this year’s VBS theme is The Trail, and invite them to tell their parents about it so they can sign up!
