This Week’s Bible Story
Jesus Walking on Water (Matthew 14) Nothing is too big for Jesus, not even walking on water! Jesus invited Peter to step out of the boat, and he walked on the water too. But in a moment of doubt, he began to sink. Jesus reminded him to trust in God no matter what, even when things are scary and don’t make sense.
Monthly Verse: God has come to save me. I will trust in him and not be afraid. ISAIAH 12:2
Check-in + Worship
As kids check in, invite them to join their parents in the Auditorium during worship. Once the worship set ends, wait in the back for kids to join you and lead them back to the Zion Kids area.
Connect
Let each kid answer today’s icebreaker question: Would you rather sail a boat through a storm or surf a giant 20 foot wave?
Bible Story
Look up Matthew 14:22-33 and tell the Bible story in your own words.
Debrief
What are some miracles we’ve seen Jesus do? What did Jesus do in our story today that is amazing? Why did Peter begin to sink when he was walking on the water? How did the disciples respond to Jesus? How should we? Prayer Time
Close your small group time by praying with your kids. This week’s prayer focus is on PRAISE PRAYERS. Ask the kids in your group, “What is one thing you love about God?” (You may need to prompt kids with ideas.) Take time to pray for each of the things that were shared.
Activity
Hand out the paper rolls and help kids staple them together to make binoculars. Then let them decorate their new binoculars. Remind the kids that just like Peter, we should always keep our eyes on Jesus!
