This Week’s Bible Story
Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) Jesus said that we can be like the man who built his house on the rock by putting Jesus’ words into action. God wants to make our hearts like His. This happens when we trust Jesus and let His words guide our own hearts, choices and actions.
Monthly Verse: For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. EPHESIANS 2:10
Check-in + Worship
As kids check in, invite them to join their parents in the Auditorium during worship. Once the worship set ends, wait in the back for kids to join you and lead them back to the Zion Kids area.
Connect
Let each kid answer today’s icebreaker question: What is the coolest thing that you’ve ever made?
Bible Story
Look up Matthew 7:24-29 and read it out loud. Tell the Bible story in your own words.
Key Story Points:
Jesus traveled, teaching about the Kingdom of Heaven, and crowds followed Him. They didn’t know yet that Jesus is the King, but He taught them how to live as people of His kingdom. Then Jesus told a story. “One man built his house on a rock. A big storm came. Because the house was built on a rock, it did not fall down. Another man built his house on soft and shifting sand. A big storm came. Because the house was built on sand, it fell down with a crash!” “The things I teach you are like the rock,” said Jesus. “Put My words into action, and you will be like the man who built his house on a rock.” Debrief
In the story Jesus told, what happened to the house built on the sand? (It fell down with a crash.) What happened to the house built on the rock? (It did not fall down.) What do you think we can learn from this story? Prayer Time
Close your small group time by praying with your kids. This week’s prayer focus is on THANK YOU PRAYERS. Ask the kids in your group, “What is something good that you can thank God for?” Take time to pray for each of the things that were shared.)
Activity
Instruct kids how to assemble their mini houses. Then invite them to decorate their mini houses using the materials provided. As they’re working, remind them about the house that was built on solid rock.
