This Week’s Bible Story

The New Heaven and New Earth (Revelation 1) The end of God’s Big Story is really a new beginning with Jesus in a brand new heaven and earth made by God. When we turn away from our sin and trust in Jesus, we can know that this future promise and new beginning is for us, too.
Monthly Verse: “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.” MARK 16:15

Connect
9:05 - 9:15
11:05 - 11:15

Let each kid answer today’s icebreaker question: What do you think heaven will look like?

Bible Story
9:15 - 9:30
11:15 - 11:30

Look up Revelation 1:17-18; 21:1-7 and tell the Bible story in your own words.
Key Story Points:
John was a disciple of Jesus. One day, Jesus came to him in a vision, shining like the sun. “Don’t be afraid,” said Jesus. “I died. Now I live forever!”
Then John saw a new heaven and a new earth, God’s promised new creation. The first heaven and the first earth were gone and the sea with them!
Next, John saw God’s Holy City, the new Jerusalem. It was coming down from heaven. It was beautiful, like a bride on her wedding day ready to meet her husband!
Then John heard a loud voice coming from the throne of God saying, “From now on, God will make His home among His people, and they will all live together.”
“In this new heaven and new earth, there won’t be any tears because no one will be in pain, and no one will die. Those things are gone, forever!”
Then the voice from the throne said, “I am the Beginning and the End. If you are thirsty, come to Me, and I will give you the water of life.”
“My new world is for My children, those who are faithful to Me. I’m making all things new. It’s true. You can count on it.”

Debrief
9:30 - 9:40
11:30 - 11:40

How did Jesus come to John? (In a vision)
What did John see in the vision? (A new heaven and earth and a new Jerusalem)

Prayer Time
9:40 - 9:45
11:40 - 11:45

Close your small group time by praying with your kids. This week’s prayer focus is on PLEASE PRAYERS. Ask the kids in your group, “Where in your life do you need God’s help?” Take time to pray for each of the things that were shared.

Activity
9:40 - 9:45
11:40 - 11:45

Provide each child with a piece of paper. Demonstrate how to fold it into quarters, then unfold it so that there are four, equal sections. Tell the children to draw four, different pictures, one inside each section on their paper: 1) The new heaven, 2) the new earth, 3) the new city of Jerusalem and 4) a picture of what they will look like when they are there.
For older kids... consider having them journal briefly about how this promise makes them feel on the back of their project.
