Big Idea: My faith grows deeper when I follow Jesus.
Bible Story: The Gospel
Memory Verse: Grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ. Ephesians 3:18 (NIV)
Circle up and let each kid take a turn rolling the dice.
Have them share their name and answer the question for the number they rolled on:
#1 If you could be invisible for one day, what would you do?
#2 If you could only celebrate one holiday for the rest of your life, what would it be?
#3 If you had a secret hideout, where would it be and what would you keep inside it?
#4 What’s the funniest sound you’ve ever heard?
#5 If you could invent something, what would it be?
#6 What’s your favorite texture?
Read the storybook that is provided called This Is The Gospel.
Why did God send Jesus? People had been separated from God ever since sin first entered the scene. Try as we might, humans just can’t get rid of sin by ourselves. But God came up with a way so that we would no longer have to be separated from God. That’s where Jesus comes in.
Why would God do that for us? Jesus explains that love was the reason Jesus came to die for our sins. Love is also the reason why Jesus came back to life. God’s love is what the whole plan is built on. God loves everyone in the world so much wants everyone to find their way back to God.
How do we do that? God’s plan was to save everyone from their sins. God does all the hard part. All people have to do is believe! The best part is... God’s amazing love is for you, too!
MAKE IT PERSONAL: Tell the kids in your group about how you became a Christian.
If you want to follow Jesus too, it’s as simple as A, B, C (see below). If you want to start a relationship with Jesus today, repeat this prayer silently in your head. (Pray a prayer using the ABC’s below.)
Admit that you have sinned and made mistakes.
Believe that Jesus is the only one who can save you from your sin.
Choose to follow Jesus.
(If you had kids choose to follow Jesus, please fill out a Yes Card so we can follow up with them after Venture.)
In John 3, what did God do because God loved us so much?
What can you do to receive God’s gift of salvation?
Read Ephesians 2:10. What is something you’ve noticed God teaching you?
How does the fact that love is the foundation of God’s plans change the way you think about the Bible stories you’ve heard?
What is most exciting to you about God having a plan for you?
Memory Verse
Look up the memory verse and read it out loud with your kids.
Invite the kids to come up with motions for the verse to help them remember it.
Practice using the motions together as a group.
Wrap Up
Close your small group time by praying with your kids.
With the remaining time you have left, let kids work on the activity page. Use this time to connect with the kids in your group. It’s often in the “blank space” that relationships begin to form!
