Week 5

This Week’s Bible Story

Jesus Feeds 5,000 (Luke 9:10-20) One day, a large crowd of people started following Jesus. But they were in the middle of nowhere and they had nothing to eat! Jesus took five pieces of bread and two fish. Then he began breaking it into pieces and passing it out to the people. There was so much food that everybody got to eat — and there were even baskets full of extra food! The people were amazed at the miracle Jesus had done.

Bible Story
9:15 - 9:30
11:15 - 11:30

Look up Luke 9:10-20 and tell the Bible story in your own words.
Key Story Points:
Everywhere that Jesus went, good things happened! He would teach people and heal people who were sick — and sometimes even feed people too!
One day, Jesus went on a walk with his friends and a large crowd of people started following them. They had heard about all of the amazing things that Jesus was doing and they wanted to meet him!
It was getting late in the day and the disciples were starting to get nervous. They were in the middle of nowhere and they had nothing to eat! So they came to Jesus and asked him, “What should we do?”
“How much food do we have?” Jesus asked. “All we have are five pieces of bread and two fish... but that’s not enough to feed 5,000 people!”
So Jesus took the bread and the fish, looked up toward heaven, and blessed the food. Then he started breaking the food into pieces. His friends took the pieces of food and passed them out to all of the people.
There was so much food that everybody got to eat — and they were full! There were even 12 extra baskets of food left over! The people were amazed at the miracle Jesus had done.

Debrief
9:30 - 9:40
11:30 - 11:40

How was Jesus able to multiply the food?
If you were one of the people in the crowd, how would you have responded?
What can we learn about Jesus in this story? What does that mean for us?

Prayer Time
9:40 - 9:45
11:40 - 11:45

Close your small group time by praying with your kids. This week’s prayer focus is on PLEASE PRAYERS. Ask the kids in your group, “Where in your life do you need God’s help?” Take time to pray for each of the things that were shared.

Activity
9:40 - 9:45
11:40 - 11:45

Pass out the cootie catcher sheets and have the kids follow the instructions provided to assemble it. Then have them use it to review the Bible story with their friends!
