People In Commons are undertaking some research and looking for participants
This research project will adhere to the UK's ethical guidelines for social science research, as outlined by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). The study will involve an initial 1-hour discussion about the proposal and process, ensuring participants are fully informed and can provide voluntary consent.
All information gathered will be used solely for research purposes and will be handled with strict confidentiality and data security measures[7]. Participant identities and information will be anonymised and accessible only to the principal investigator, James Gardiner, to protect the rights and dignity of individuals.
The research will investigate fixed living costs, including housing, energy, utilities, travel, food, and childcare. Data will be collected to create an overall picture of living costs for individual participants and the collective group. This approach aims to maximise benefit for individuals and society while minimising risk and harm.
The data will be analysed to explore how organisational structures might reduce the overall cost of living for participants, potentially including collective buying networks. This aligns with the principle of conducting research with integrity and transparency.
The study is grounded in the concept of solidarity and regeneration, investigating how economies of scale and organisational frameworks can reduce costs. The research outcomes aim inform the development of hyper-local community support structures and systems, potentially benefiting wider groups in the future.
Participants will be provided with clear information about the study's purpose, methods, and potential outcomes. They will have the right to withdraw within a specified timeframe, and a complaints procedure will be in place. The project will undergo review by the appropriate Research Ethics Committee to ensure it meets all necessary ethical standards.
This research aims to serve the public good by exploring potential solutions to reduce living costs and impact, while maintaining the highest standards of research integrity and ethical practice.
