The Role
We are looking for dedicated and reliable people with care experience, who would fit into our small independently-run care team, looking after a 35 year old man with Muscular Dystrophy. He lives in a fully adapted flat on the quayside in Gateshead, soon to move to an adapted flat in Gosforth in December; he lives with his wife and son, and gets around using an electric wheelchair.
It is a rewarding and enjoyable job for successful applicants, where you can build a great working relationship with the client and other carers, take the initiative in your responsibilities, and really help make a difference. There are also opportunities to accompany him to social activities and events, such as football games, concerts, the cinema, and away on holidays.

Key Responsibilities
The role will include helping in all aspects of daily and social life:
Completing daily tasks such as: showering, toileting and dressing, all with the use of specialist equipment such as ceiling hoists and an adapted bathroom.
Preparation of some meals, and help with eating and drinking.
Administration of medicines, and operation and upkeep of medical equipment: PEG, ventilator, cough assist, tracheostomy.
Accompanying to social events, going out around Newcastle, and providing support with hobbies, as well as being good company and engaging in conversation throughout the day.
Providing a high level of care and professionalism; keeping an eye on health status and happiness.
Shifts are divided into: Daytime (8.00am - 8.00pm) and Waking Overnight (8.00pm - 8.00am).
Full Training Provided

About You
Candidates should be: responsible, organised, enthusiastic, caring, outgoing and talkative.
They should be looking for a commitment of at least a year.
Although we can provide full training, we are particularly keen to find candidates who have:
Previous experience working in a care setting: 1 year (highly desirable).
Experience in Tracheostomy Care (highly desirable).
Qualifications in Care or Nursing (highly desirable).
Moving and Handling Skills (highly desirable).

Competitive hourly rate.
Holiday: 5.6 weeks (28 days) per year.
Flexible working hours.
Enrolment into Government NEST pension scheme.

Covid-19 Considerations
All applicants must be double vaccinated and willing to lateral flow before their shift.
Full PPE is provided.

This job is funded by the government through the local council.
