2023 Improvements

My Summary

2023 has improved user experience with infotainment center that controls all the settings. 2021 was the launch year and therefore still had some software bugs. The most consistent complaints I’ve read in the reviews of the 2021 model is about the software. 2023 has addressed those bugs.
2023 has much better integrated navigation that plans where you should stop to charge based on real time availability and charging speed. For 2021 model you probably need to rely on apps on your phone.
The 2023 model supports more comprehensive over-the-air updates, allowing the navigation system to stay up-to-date with the latest maps and software improvements without requiring a visit to the dealership.
Improved range: 2021 has 250 mile range. 2023 has 275 to 280 mile range. From our house to James Island is 242 miles.
2023 has upgraded fast charging capability. It can charge 5% to 80% in 30 minutes vs. 38 minutes.
2023 has nicer interior materials

ChatGPT Summary

1. Enhanced Charging Capabilities:
The 2023 ID.4 Pro benefits from a significant upgrade in its DC fast charging capacity, which is now up to 170 kW compared to the 125 kW in the 2021 model. This means the 2023 model can charge from 5% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes, shaving off about 8 minutes compared to the 2021 model. This improvement is particularly beneficial for long-distance travel, making the 2023 model more convenient for road trips and reducing downtime at charging stations( ).
2. Updated Navigation and Technology:
The 2023 ID.4 features an updated navigation system with enhanced route planning that includes real-time data on charging station availability and estimated charging times. The system is more responsive, with a larger 12-inch touchscreen offering better graphics and usability. These improvements make the 2023 model more user-friendly and efficient, especially when planning longer trips( ).
3. Improved Interior Quality and Comfort:
The 2023 ID.4 Pro has seen some refinements in interior materials and overall build quality. Reviewers have noted that the cabin is more polished, with better seating comfort and a more spacious feel due to intelligent design updates. While the 2021 model was already commendable in terms of comfort, the 2023 model takes it a step further, making it a better choice for daily driving and longer journeys().
4. Longer Warranty and Future-Proofing:
As a newer vehicle, the 2023 ID.4 Pro comes with more of its original warranty remaining, providing peace of mind for a longer period. Additionally, owning a newer model means it is more future-proof, with the latest technology and features that will remain relevant for a longer time, potentially increasing its resale value compared to the 2021 model().
Conclusion:
The expert reviews consistently highlight that while the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 Pro was a solid entry into the EV market, the 2023 model offers notable improvements in charging speed, navigation, interior comfort, and technology. These enhancements make the 2023 ID.4 Pro a more compelling choice, especially if you value faster charging, better tech, and a more refined driving experience. These factors should strengthen your case for choosing the 2023 model over the 2021.

My Recommendation

I think the 2023 improvements will come in very handy.
The confirmed out the door cost is just under the $25k we were looking for
I feel good about the dealership
I think we should drive down together to pick up the car. I can sell my CRV privately using Arthur to do the dirty work. We could put down the $10k we discussed + $6k (I am confident that I can get more than this for the CRV). Then finance the remaining $8700.
