Structures Engineer

About the Role
Whisper Aero is a next-generation, air propulsion company that delivers thrust more cleanly, efficiently, and quietly than ever before.
We’re looking for a Structures Engineer to join our team. This engineer will be focused on performing various static, structural, modal analyses from rough hand calcs to detailed FEM analyses. They will drive key structural design decisions and work closely with our Structures Lead, Chief Engineer, and hardware team regularly. This person will have a solid track record of designing, analyzing, and producing flight weight hardware and will bring a can-do attitude to the most challenging problems.
What You’ll Do:
Perform structural sizing and integrity evaluations of future design concepts
Finite element analyses of engine components and complete assemblies using best modeling practices
Produce structural configuration layouts and detail designs including preliminary sizing and joint layouts of parts and assemblies employing metallic and composite materials
Coordinate with other disciplines in support of design configuration trades, constraints, and decisions
Design, develop and test structural components and assemblies
Continuously evaluate new configurations and design improvements to minimize flight weight while maintaining structural integrity
Write technical reports that are accurate and comprehensive to be peer-reviewed by other team members

What You’ll Need:
U.S. Person status is required, as this position may access export controlled data
Full understanding of statics, solid mechanics, and free-body diagrams to perform classical hand-calculation methods
Basic understanding of metallic and composite materials manufacturing (e.g., forming, machining, lamination theory, fabrication and assembly processes, etc.)
Experience with finite element modeling with Nastran, ANSYS, Abaqus, or others
Experience with a 3D CAD package such as Solidworks, NX, CATIA V5, or Fusion 360
Familiarity with Python, Julia, VBA, or Matlab
Strong technical, written, and verbal communication skills
Experience in a fast-paced design environment

Bonus Qualifications:
Familiarity with data management, revision and version control: Git
Experience with aero elastics, structural dynamics, and rotor dynamics
Experience with HyperX
Experience with structural sizing and topology optimization
Cross-disciplinary interests are strongly encouraged
