Manufacturing Process R&D Intern

Location: Crossville, TN

About the Role

The purpose of this role is to implement process and design improvements, increase the efficiency of manufacturing efforts, and unlock exciting new capabilities through developing novel manufacturing and assembly processes. In this internship role, you will be responsible for improving current processes and laying the groundwork for new processes. This intern role emphasizes meticulous documentation and outside-the-box thinking. You will also be responsible for owning your work, assisting and learning from engineering mentors, and working across groups.

What You’ll Do

Create models using SolidWorks
Design for and utilize rapid prototyping equipment
Prepare and conduct project reviews
Assembling prototypes

Basic Qualifications

US Person
2 or more years completed of a BS or MS in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related discipline
Previous experience with an engineering design team such as SAE Formula Racing, Rocketry, BAJA, or similar
Familiar with CAD software (SolidWorks preferred)
Strong hands on fabrication skills and ability to use power tools effectively and safely

Bonus Qualifications

Experience performing and documenting research
Experience implementing process improvements in a manufacturing environment
Experience operating lathes, mills, routers, CNC equipment, and/or 3D printers.
Experience with electrical wiring, soldering, and crimping
Passion for aviation
