Whisper Aero is a next-generation, air propulsion company that delivers thrust more cleanly, efficiently, and quietly than ever before.
We’re looking for a Certification Lead who can shape Whisper Aero’s certification direction and execution across multiple products. In particular they will actively engage with industry regulatory groups, shape Whisper’s certification strategy and tactics, and convert plans into actionable internal and external steps. Their work will touch a variety of Whisper Aero products and will work closely with our CEO and Chief Product Officer. They’ll have no problems rolling up their sleeves to get work done.
Location: Remote or Crossville, TN
What You’ll Do:
Own Whisper Aero’s certification strategy and tactics across multiple propulsor and integrated products
Design and build Whisper Aero’s certification processes and tools towards the successful accelerated certification of products
Represent Whisper Aero in meetings with regulatory authorities, working groups, and industry committees
Interpret requirements and advise company personnel in matters related to airworthiness, certification, and policy interpretation
What You’ll Need:
Bachelors of Science in an Engineering discipline and 10 yrs of industry experience or 3+ years of targeted electric aviation experience
U.S. Person status
Strong knowledge of ASTM, RTCA, and SAE standards
Strong knowledge of 14 CFR Part 21, Part 23, Part 33, and Part 35 requirements, guidance, policy, processes, and means and methods of compliance
Broad knowledge of aircraft designs and systems
Direct experience working with FAA, EASA, or other Civil Aviation Authorities
Experience developing applicant positions on complex compliance issues, including Issue Papers
Familiarity with Google Workspace, Coda, Zoom, and other remote working tools
Familiarity with US government contracting best practices
Strong technical, written, and verbal communication skills
Ability to work in groups and individually
Experience in a fast-paced design environment
Strong knowledge of 14 CFR Parts 25, 27, and 29 regulations, policy, and guidance material
Strong knowledge of MIL-SPECS and certification processes
Experience working with Air Force, Department of Defense, and other Government Agency acquisition processes.
Strong Familiarity with electric aircraft (CTOL, STOL, VTOL, drones)
Prior experience with manufacturing and maintenance of drones and GA aircraft
Prior experience engaging with FBOs and Part 135 operators
