The definition of AI used here is from
the ICO

: “as an umbrella term for a range of algorithm-based technologies that solve complex tasks by carrying out functions that previously required human thinking.” It’s a pretty broad definition, encompassing, in my view, machine learning and Deep Learning/Generative AI.
Don’t read too much into which Publishers have a lot of entries compared to those who don’t - some Publishers are very vocal about what they are doing, others rarely comment on their technology.
Mentioned dates should be treated with caution unless they are confirmed in official press releases.
Several publishers with long-standing AI-powered services, such as journal recommendation systems, may not appear in the table because it focuses primarily on developments from the past 2–3 years.
The list is biased towards UK/USA solutions, and there isn't much that’s open source on the list. Feel free to message me with suggested additions.
