A lot of track-work is administrative - used to be held by Syd & BEAN; currently Ronny is holding most information on those fronts
part of why a lot of folks are out of the loop w/ what’s going on at the workers’ center
PLT hasn’t met since they were seated in the Summer
appropriate for Grace & Molly to step in with high-labor administrative support - Transition Committee?
Restitution & Transition team: ideally convened tonight – Cam for long-term position, Phill for a position set to sunset @ end of FY - both are elected PLT members; well-positioned to jump into this - why not jump in?
RT team can work on a hiring process to bring on long-term person
typically: team that facilitates leadership team in being able toe to lead
job description committee needs to be convened w/ thinking capacity
Rachel R: feeling tensions w/ Ronny’s approach but it’s not the priority – makes sense to hire folks first
Rachel S: think Phill makes sense as hire; believe in teamwork w/ Cam; want to integrate Phill & BEAN’s notes on how to support multimarginalized folks better moving forward, especially Black members; how can PC / membership better support staff collective moving forward?
Molly K: willing to be part of the transition & restitution team. Will echo Maest’s comment about being concerned about P being in the conflict; don’t have enough understanding of what happened to make a strong decision; feel ok w/ Cam
Grace: a lot of what’s on the screen is wordy to process; don’t understand the org structures the way others do; not sure about what a transition committee needs to hold so the org can continue to exist; think Cam is a good choice for long-term person; think Cam & Phill would work well together; feel like there’s a conflict of interest; concern: the conflict & conflict of interest might carry into the work; feel like the board has to be empowered – a lot has been on pause
Ronny: wanting to involve Phill in a role that centers ableism and antiblackness; organizationally – we’re gonna need to show accountability to broader community that Phill is part of & beloved within; if conflict is an issue – feel like that’s Phill’s strength; giving Phill 4 months to work on the problems they and BEAN noticed and experienced in their time here; way to be accountable organizationally
other step we could take: Cam coming in to help us add capacity around the conflict resolution – have Cam come into that space; get clarity on what’s going on
feel like Molly, Grace, and others don’t have the clarity they need to make that decision
don’t want Phill and Cam in opposition or competition with each other; want to create resentment between them that wouldn’t be setting them up for success
ultimately: not enough board members here to make a decision
Rachel S: want to see an abolitionist framework embodied by short and longterm staff
if Cam is leaving the Board and joining the staff, would like to formally transition into the Restitution & Transition Team
