We decided the best way to connect with our peers and feel the pulse of our intended demographic at this stage was through an online survey.
We sent out a mental well-being focused form to the students at Mahindra University to gather intel on how people perceive their mental health and how it affects their daily life, relationships, and overall well-being. While most of these results were predictable (stress management and a lack of motivation being the most severe), some were quite surprising (Sleeplessness has affected less than 35% of the community). Most importantly, there are results that are pertinent to our cause which you may find below:
Stress Management
A significant proportion of individuals, specifically 82%, consider stress management to be a major issue in their life.
Over half the populous claim that it has deeply impacted them in the last six months and 17.4% of them are willing to seek professional help for it.
Loneliness
A smaller proportion of individuals, specifically 57.1%, consider loneliness to be a major issue in their life.
Over three quarters of the populous claim that it has deeply impacted them in the last six months and 31.3% of them are willing to seek professional help for it.
Lack of motivation/Academic Invalidation
A huge proportion of individuals, specifically 70%, consider lack of motivation and academic validation to be a major issue in their life.
Less than three quarters of the populous claim that it has deeply impacted them in the last six months and 42.1% of them are willing to seek professional help for it.
Relationship management
A very small proportion of individuals, specifically 39.3%, consider relationship management to be a major issue in their life.
Less than half the populous claim that it has not deeply impacted them in the last six months and 45.5% of them are willing to seek professional help for it.
Low Self Esteem, Self Doubt
A certain proportion of individuals, specifically 57%, consider low self-esteem and self-doubt to be a major issue in their life.
Exactly three quarters of the populous claim that it has deeply impacted them in the last six months and a whopping 48.3% of them are willing to seek professional help for it.
Imposter syndrome
A proportion of individuals, specifically 53.6%, consider imposter syndrome to be a major issue in their life.
Almost half the populous claim that it has deeply impacted them in the last six months and 33.3% of them are willing to seek professional help for it.
Sleeplessness
A minuscule proportion of individuals, specifically 32%, consider sleeplessness to be a major issue in their life.
Over three quarters of the populous claim that it has deeply impacted them in the last six months and a third of them are willing to seek professional help for it.
Body Image
Over half the populous claim that it has deeply impacted them in the last six months and a tiny 23% of them are willing to seek professional help for it.
A much smaller proportion of individuals, specifically 46.4%, consider body issues to be a major issue in their life.
Fear for the future
A certain proportion of individuals, specifically 53.6%, consider fear for the future to be a major issue in their life.
Over half the populous claim that it has deeply impacted them in the last six months and a major 60% of them are willing to seek professional help for it.
These results paint the story of a student body that wants to improve on its mental wellbeing and that was the very point of this questionnaire was to see who is at stake here and how many of us are willing to do something about it. As you can see, the results are promising, and we will be moving forward with this new information.
