stylized shapes then realistic anatomy landmarks on top
- don't frame the face with landmarks (like the jaw) or "bonus" stuff like the beard, arrange them around where the facial expression main lines push them
- When you have the opportunity, use more curvy than straight lines on the macro/big scale, unless the character design is that way
- anything you can give thickness / a double line to is good because it helps create big/medium/small contrast
- Make the main ambient occlusion lines a bit thicker to increase readability
