EK2380 Medical Sensors 7.5 credits

The course will provide insight into biosensor applications with overview of economic importance and the multidisciplinary aspects of sensor technology. The course covers sensor principles and measurement technology for medicine and health, analytical parameters for sensors; design and manufacturing methods of the sensors (Electrical / electrochemical, optical, mechanical) and their surface functionalization. Recent and advanced topics include but not limited to micro and nanotechnologies in sensor science, including micro and nanofluidics, sample / individual - sensor interactions.

The course provide insides into the value innovation and business concept development, analysis of the needs, market and pricing through the evaluation of competitors, key players and distribution solutions. IDENTIFY where the focus is on Needs Finding and Need Validation
INVENT with the focus on Ideation and Brainstorming, Concept Generation, Intellectual Property Basics, Regulatory Basics, Reimbursement Basics, Business Models and Prototyping
IMPLEMENT that dress the development strategy for: IP, R&D, Clinical, Regulatory, Sales
and Integration with the discussion over Operating Plan and Financial Models

HL2032 Medical Engineering, Project Course 9.0 credits

As an engineer you need to be able to integrate skills and knowledge from different courses within this programme. It is also expected from you to be able to construct a product or prototype from a given, not completely finished, specification of requirement, both as participant and as a project manager. To manage this you will also need to acquire new information and knowledge, which is a life-long process.

AAK2011 Technology and Ethics 3.5 (7.5) credits

Our point of departure will be practical ethical problems. These will vary each time the course is given but classical examples include conflicts between safety and economy or function, environmental effects of technology, conflicts between the engineer’s professionalism and his/her loyalty to the employer, work with morally dubious technologies, insider problems and industrial espionage, integrity issues related to IT, etc.

AK2036 Theory and Methodology of Science with Applications (Natural and Technological Science)7.5 credits

The aim of the course is to provide a deeper understanding of the methodological and underlying philosophical issues that arise in science, and inspire to reflection on such issues within the student’s own area of study. After having taken the course the student should have acquired basic knowledge of the foundational issues in the methodology and philosophy of science, specially as regards the natural and technological sciences.
