DIGITAL TWIN

Gunnar Cedersund “Physiologically based digital twins as an expert companion along the Patient Journey.”

- In our research we create digital twins, a digital picture where you can look inside your body, and see how your organs and physiologically processes, such as blood flow, heartbeats and brain activity, works and interacts in different scenarios. Thursday, 25th of February, Gunnar Cedersund, Associate Professor in System Biology at Linköping University, will present his 20 years of research in the field.
- The digital twin is an expert companion that moves along with the patient, and both
continuously updates and collect data from the patient´s activities and different healthcare providers, and has the expertise of the scientific research community, says Gunnar Cedersund.
A digital twin can be used, both by patients and healthcare providers, to visualize how the patient’s body will react if you, for example, start taking a new drug or start to excercise more.
- A physician can use the digital twin to test various interventions, for example, how the patient’s body will respond to two different types of drugs.
The digital twins are based on mathematical models of the human brain, liver function, beta cell, fat tissue, muscle metabolism, blood flow and the heart.
- This is not a traditional type of AI, since you can look inside our models and see the physiologically processes and how everything moves and interacts with each other in different scenarios.
