These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a binding legal agreement between you and Goodlaw that govern the right to use the websites, applications, and other offerings from Goodlaw (collectively, the “Goodlaw Platform”).
The Goodlaw Platform enables users (“Members”) to offer, request and receive services. Members who offer third-party services are “Lawyers” and Members who request and receive third-party services are “Clients.”
Lawyers offer legal advice (“Legal Advice”), instructions, answers, and tips (“Legal Help”). As the provider of the Goodlaw Platform, Goodlaw (or its affiliates) does not provide Legal Advice, Legal Help or any other services. Goodlaw is not a party to the contracts entered into directly between Lawyers and Clients, nor is Goodlaw a law firm. Goodlaw is not acting as an agent in any capacity for any Member.
We maintain other terms and policies that supplement these Terms like our , which describes our collection and use of personal data, and our , which govern any payment services provided to Members by the Goodlaw payment entities (collectively "Goodlaw Payments").

1. Requesting and Hiring a Lawyer on Goodlaw

1.1 Requesting a Lawyer

You can request a Lawyer and the Goodlaw Platform will analyze your past activity to propose a series of potential Lawyers you might want to hire. The Goodlaw Platform will analyze information which you have provided in the past about your immigration situation. And the Goodlaw Platform will analyze your recent activity to propose the most relevant Lawyers. You are able to cycle through a variety of Lawyers, review information about each Lawyer and select your preferred lawyer.

1.2 Hiring a Lawyer

When you hire a Lawyer, you are agreeing to pay all charges from the Lawyer including taxes. These charges may be a per message fee which you incur by sending messages to the Lawyer. The charges may include a preset price which you and the Lawyer agreed to for solving a specific situation. The charges may include a per message fee based on the number of messages you sent to the Lawyer. Collectively, we refer to these charges as the “Total Price”.
When you start receiving services from the Lawyer, you will enter into a contract with the Lawyer directly to which Goodlaw is not a party. The Lawyer will be bound by attorney client privilege and will provide you with legal advice.

2. Using Goodlaw’s Selfserve Tools

2.1 Using the Goodlaw AI

You can chose to use the Goodlaw AI to manage your legal questions, problems or situations without hiring a lawyer. When you ask the Goodlaw AI questions, it will filter a variety of sources of information and present a potential answer to your questions. The information which is filtered and presented by the Goodlaw AI is not legal advice and is not a recommendation from Goodlaw or from a lawyer. The information which is filtered and presented by the Goodlaw AI may or may not be accurate and up to date. When using the Goodlaw AI, you are making your own decisions without consulting a lawyer and without receiving advice

2.2 Using Goodlaw’s other Selfserve Tools

You can chose to use Goodlaw’s task tracking, legal forms, legal documents or other tools (collectively “Selfserve Tools”). When you use Goodlaw’s Selfserve Tools you are choosing to manage your legal questions, problems or situations without hiring a lawyer. And you are choosing to take full ownership of your decisions. Any tips which are provided throughout the Selfserve Tools are generalized advice which may or may not apply for your specific situation. Any information which is pre-filled by Goodlaw is done in an automated fashion and is not necessarily correct

3. Your Data and Personal Information

3.1 Sharing data and personal information with Goodlaw

You can chose to share data and personal information with Goodlaw by answering questionnaires, using our Selfserve Tools, using the Goodlaw AI or in other ways. When you share data and personal information with Goodlaw we store and index it. It will then be made available by Goodlaw to Lawyers for the purpose of helping Lawyers offer you better services. It will also be made available by Goodlaw to you for the purpose of helping you more easily use Goodlaw’s Selfserve Tools or other parts of the Goodlaw Platform

3.2 Sharing data and personal information with Lawyers

Lawyers will ask you for information when they are providing you with Legal Advice and Legal Help. Any information which you provide to Lawyers is protected by attorney client privilege and Lawyers cannot share this information with anyone. When you provide this information on the Goodlaw Platform the data and information will be stored and indexed by Goodlaw. It will then be made available by Goodlaw to Lawyers for the purpose of helping Lawyers offer you better services. It will also be made available by Goodlaw to you for the purpose of helping you more easily use Goodlaw’s Selfserve Tools or other parts of the Goodlaw Platform

3.3 Intellectual property

Goodlaw will use the data and information which you share and create through the Goodlaw Platform to improve the Goodlaw AI and improve other parts of the Goodlaw Platform. The data and information which is used for these purposes is owned by Goodlaw. The technology improvements which are created from this data and information are owned by Goodlaw.

5. Offering Services on Goodlaw

5.1 Lawyers

As a Lawyer, Goodlaw officers you the possibility of using the Goodlaw Platform in accordance with the Terms to provide Legal Advice and Legal Help to our community of Clients - and earn money doing it. After being vetted, you will be able to create a Profile and accept Requests from Clients. Clients will ask you questions and you will provide them with Legal Advice and Legal Help (collectively Lawyer Services).

5.2 Lawyer Portal and other technology provided

Goodlaw provides Lawyers with access to a variety of technology services including a Lawyer Portal (collectively, Lawyer Technology). The Lawyer Technology is intended to help you provide better Lawyer Services to Clients. It is not a replacement for your expertise and work. You remain responsible in all cases for understanding your Client’s needs and providing them Lawyer Services.

5.3 Independence of Lawyers

Your relationship with Goodlaw is that of an independent individual or entity and not an employee, agent, joint venturer, or partner of Goodlaw, except that Goodlaw Payments acts as a payment collection agent as described in the Payments Terms. Goodlaw does not direct or control your Lawyer Service, and you understand that you have complete discretion whether and when to provide Lawyer Services, and at what price and on what terms to offer them.

5.4 Training and ongoing education

Goodlaw may require that you complete specific training to remain on the Goodlaw Platform. This can include training on legal topics, on using technology and tools, on serving Clients or on other topics. You will be required to complete this training and can be removed from the Goodlaw Platform if you do not complete it. You will complete this training on your own time and Goodlaw will not provide compensation.

5.5 Off Platform Policy

In order to protect our community and business, it is prohibited to: (i) take Clients off of the Goodlaw Platform for new, partial, or future bookings; (ii) ask Clients for, or use, contact or identity information in ways unrelated to providing Legal Advice or Legal Help; (iii) take Clients off of the Goodlaw Platform for feedback and reviews; (iiii) require that Clients use other websites or apps to other than Government or Court provided websites and apps.

6. Your Contract with Clients

6.1 Your contract

By using the Goodlaw Platform you will be offering Lawyer Services to Clients. You will enter into your own independent contract with each Client. Goodlaw may provide you with a template or other help in creating this contract but you are responsible for creating, editing and maintaining the right contract. You are responsible for ensuring that your contract stays in line with the structure of the Goodlaw Platform.

6.2 Signing your contract with Clients

Goodlaw may present your contract to Clients so they can sign it and may make it easy for Clients to sign your contract with them. But you are responsible for ensuring that Clients sign their contract and that they sign the right contract.

6.3 Storing your contract with Clients

Goodlaw may help you store your contract with Clients and may help you manage your contracts. But you are responsible for storing, keeping and managing your contracts with Clients.

6.4 Obligations you have with Clients

You are entering into your own contract with Clients. You are responsible for ensuring that you deliver on that contract and you are responsible for all obligations you have with Clients

7. Your Data and Personal Information

7.1 Data and Information about you and your practice

By using the Goodlaw Platform, you will be providing Goodlaw with data and information about you and your practice. Some of this Data and Personal Information will be displayed to existing or prospective Clients in your profile, during the Client’s Lawyer selection process or in other ways. But this information will otherwise be kept confidential.

7.2 Data and Information about your Clients

By offering Lawyer Services on the Goodlaw Platform, your Clients will be providing you with data and information through the Goodlaw Platform. This data and information may be used by Goodlaw to help Clients get better services. It might be used within Goodlaw’s Selfserve Tools, it might be used by the Goodlaw AI and it might be used to improve either of those. It might be shared with other Lawyers on the Goodlaw Platform to help them provide better Lawyer Services. When your Clients share their data or information with Goodlaw, this does not imply that they have waived attorney client privilege or that they have given you the permission to otherwise share this information.

7.3 Data and information about legal questions

By offering Lawyer Services on the Goodlaw Platform, you will be answering legal questions and providing other data or information about legal questions. Goodlaw may use this data and information to improve the Goodlaw Platform by improving the Goodlaw AI, by sharing with other Lawyers, by integrating it into Selfserve Tools or in some other way.

7.4 Intellectual property

Goodlaw will use the data and information which you share and create through the Goodlaw Platform to improve the Goodlaw AI and improve other parts of the Goodlaw Platform. The data and information which is used for these purposes is owned by Goodlaw. The technology improvements which are created from this data and information are owned by Goodlaw.

8. Fees and payment

8.1 Technology fees

By offering Lawyer Services on the Goodlaw Platform, you are agreeing to pay Goodlaw a fee for the use of our technology. These fees are applied automatically by Goodlaw when we collect payment on your behalf. We will communicate these fees to you before you accept a Client request but keep the right to adjust the amount of the fees and adjust the structure of the fees without notice. Our technology fees are packaged as a single fee and cannot be split or reduced based on your use of Goodlaw’s technology or based on other criteria.

8.2 Other fees

Goodlaw may charge other fees including payment processing fees. We will communicate these fees to you before you accept a Client request but keep the right to adjust the amount of the fees and adjust the structure of the fees without notice. Our fees are packaged as a single fee and cannot be split or reduced.

8.3 Payments from Clients

When you offer Lawyer Services on the Goodlaw Platform, you enter into a contract with your Clients where they agree to pay you. Payment for Lawyer Services on the Goodlaw Platform must be completed using Goodlaw’s payments. Clients cannot pay you off the Goodlaw Platform.

8.4 Payment collection

You are responsible for collecting payments from Clients for the Lawyer Services which you offer on the Goodlaw Platform. Goodlaw may facilitate payment collection in a variety of ways but you remain responsible for collecting the payment.
