Paola & Siri

I have known Paola since I was in middle school. We didn't keep in touch much throughout college, perhaps only seeing each other twice or so. However, I love to tell people about the story of how we reconnected. In my first job out of college, I was in a rotation program and there was a baseball event being organized for new hires in the program. I saw her name on the thread but thought to myself, "That can't be her." I quickly dismissed the thought and soon the day of the baseball game arrived. As I walked up the stadium steps to our reserved seats, we both saw each other and shouted in excitement. We quickly reconnected and found ourselves talking about being roommates. After confirming that I was not allergic to her cats, we moved into a house together in Torrance and had many fun adventures together. This time period (2016-2017) is one of my favorite chapters in my life and I consider Paola to be one of my closest and dearest friends.

Thus naturally, when she told me she had started dating a guy in the UK, I was elated for her. At the time they got together, I had moved abroad and was living another ocean away in Taiwan, and so being separated by many miles and a different time zone, I don’t think I fully understood the extent of their compatibility until I met Siridean in-person at our mutual friend’s wedding in 2022. Last year, I went to Europe for the first time and stayed at their shared flat in Harrogate. Seeing them together in their home environment, I can confirm that they are perfect for each other. They have adopted many of the same quirks, from little squeals to curious phrases. Siridean even 3D prints mushroom-shaped candle molds for Paola, and if that isn’t love, I’m not sure what is! They also love to wear matching clothes when they go rock climbing together. Most recently, we went on a trip together with another friend to the Netherlands and had a blast. I can’t wait to visit Paola & Siri in New Zealand, and for more adventures to come in this lifetime!
