Request Leave

If you need some time off, no worries, we've got you covered.
Just log into your account and find the Time Off app. In the app, you’ll see an overview of the available leave policies and your balances. To make a request, find the “Request time off” button.
For most policies, your manager needs to approve your request. Once it’s approved, your time off will be shared on the company vacation calendar. No sensitive details are shared. Note that only an Admin can edit an approved request.

Vacation

Each employee in Germany has 30 days of annual leave based on a 5-day work week, no matter if you are employed full-time or on an hourly basis.
Of the 30 days, 20 are statutory and 10 are contractual leave. While statutory vacation is regulated by the Mindesturlaubsgesetz für Arbeitnehmer (BUrlG,
), contractual vacation is an employee benefit.
Untaken annual leave expires on Dec 31 unless there were important business or personal reasons preventing you from taking your vacation. Personal reasons might be an extended leave due to illness. Business reasons need to be extraordinary.
If you leave GaeaStar, unused contractual leave expires. How much of your statutory leave expires depends on your leave date.

Sick Leave

Please request the absence through Rippling and send any doctor’s notes to Johannes at js@gaeastar.com.
If you are ill or need to care for a sick child, you can request paid sick leave. We ask that you inform your manager and Johannes as soon as you know that you won’t be able to work.
Sick leave in Germany is generally not capped. But you are required to provide a doctor’s note on your 3rd day of sick leave; and in individual cases we may ask for evidence sooner.
For extended periods of sick leave (more than 6 weeks), GaeaStar will only offer unpaid sick leave, because your health insurance will take over at this point.

Federal Holidays

Berlin’s are paid time-off. You do not need to request time off for these days.
Because federal holidays in Berlin and the US are different, your colleagues will probably take time off on different days. If you decide to work on a holiday, please make sure to take a day off as soon as possible to make up for that day.
