BACKGROUND INFO

India’s state-run National Hydropower Facility are planning a hydroelectric power project by the Dibang River
The total land requirement of this project is 5,349 hectactres, over 700 of which is community land
The FAC in 2019 shows that the the project will build on the richest Himalayan bio geographical area and us one of the worlds mega biodiversity hotspots
Local communities are concerned and the dam harming their relationship with the land - over 100 families could be displaced from their homes and over 700 families will lose land they rely on
Coercion for consent - public hearings have been held and ignored, the Special Task Force have used violence at protests where 9 people were injured, by 2013 protesters had been defeated by government opposition
