It started in my marine fabrication course in 2019 at my highschool, but covid hit in 2020. In a severly unfinished state at the time, I trailered it home and continued to work on it in the summer of 2020, then when I was home from college in 2020 and 2021, finishing by summer of 2021!
The console was recovered from an old Boston Whaler, completely sanded down and repainted with all new wood and control panels.
The bench was hand-built using designs from online resources and a copy of an old Boston Whaler flip-back bench. I had no machines to precision cut, so with a lot of patience, I managed to make a generally presentable end product.
Fun fact! A majority of the wood you see on the boat is reclaimed, coming from table leaves, random slabs in people's garages, doors, fences, and more.
This was during Covid, so with no access to real shop tools, I had to get creative. Steaming of the gunwales to bend them to shape was done with plastic bags connected to a hose, connected to a large metal gas can sitting above a flame to boil water! I made friends with local woodshops for larger saws as needed as well.
