Our ways of working

As agreed on in our discussion of 4th October
Minimum 80% module participation required, as one cannot catch up on missed experiences
Punctuality expected as (1) good manners, (2) support for whoever happens to be teaching at the moment and (3) important teacher trait
Elena’s more than happy to be emailed, so don’t hold back! Elena will aim to respond within up to 24 hours (Note: Elena doesn’t answer emails during weekends)
Formative, portfolio-based assessment on the module, with an end-of-term ‘cover letter’ to Elena to self-assess own development. Students can work in the Noticing platform for a more dialogic experience (reports are automatically generated) or use a for individual written reflections (to be emailed to Elena weekly).
Module shared with Prof. Nikolovska, with points from this part of the module (expressed in percentages, out of 100% - see which has been collaboratively developed by students over the years and is still open to input from you) passed on to her for final moderation
Students arranging their own practical teaching to enclose in portfolio proof of observing and teaching in the school - form for this downloadable from
.
Focus on feedback on teaching from learners and from oneself; Elena will attempt to withhold judgement as it can undermine learning and relationships, and encourage you instead to arrive at your own, informed judgements (a very important life skill!)
Guest speakers, e.g. on teacher-parent communication, combined classes (esp. in rural contexts), crafts, SEN, etc.
Students to set up a Viber group with Elena for more immediate communication
Outdoor activities welcome when conditions permit (e.g. outside of allergies ‘season’)
Play (e.g. games, such as warmers, energisers, etc.), playfulness and humour welcome
Kinaesthetic activities are fine as long as they are age-appropriate (e.g. grown-ups might struggle to do Simon Says designed for young learners)
Music welcome
[This is work in progress, feel free to add any other suggestions!]
