E Portfolio Post 5

Unfortunately this week my PA-18 crashed and I broke a propeller. I was flying at McAllister with Trigg and Ryan and I was doing some traffic patterns while Trigg was flying his FPV drone. Me and Trigg agreed to stay at least 50ft away from each other but during my final he got a little close to me and it startled me and caused me to try and do an evasive maneuver to avoid the fpv drone. This caused me to lose control of my plane and it crashed straight into the ground. I think that this crash could have been avoided if me and Trigg coordinated before hand to establish locations for where we would fly as opposed to just setting a more arbitrary distance limit. It was very hard for Trigg to tell how far away he was from my plane when he is viewing everything from the FPV goggles. I think that this crash was a good lesson on the importance of pre flight planning.
One good thing is that before the crash I was able to get some really good practice flying in 15-20mph winds. My PA-18 is very light (around 3-5lbs) so while it was much harder to control I think it gave me some good experience. I do also think that the high winds contributed to the crash as it made it easier for the plane to lose control.
