1. Point boat, should be positioned in the middle of the course, sailing fast towards the next mark, ready to help teammate on either side if needed
2. Covering opponent(s) on their side of the course, sailing fast towards the next mark
3. Covering opponent(s) on the other side of the course of the 2, sailing fast towards the next mark
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________
4. Tacking duel/working with the 5 to slow down one side of the course or the other to pass the 3.
5. Tacking duel/ working with the 4 to slow down one side of the course or the other to pass the 3.
6. Sailing fast in attempt to catch up to the 3.
Mark 1 Approach
1. Point boat, stay ahead of teammates and get out of the way to allow for the 2,3 to round.
2. Communicate with the 3 on approach, give each other distance so you do not have to duck one another going into mark 1.
3. Communicate with the 2 on approach, give each other distance so you do not have to duck one another going into mark 1.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________
4. Set up your approach to come into the mark on starboard lay line, giving yourself a better chance to get a piece of the leaders.
5. Sail fast, trying to close the distance to the leaders.
6. Sail fast, trying to close the distance to the leaders.
Mark 1
1. Round the mark quickly and get out of the way of teammates.
2. Round the mark quickly, give room for the 3 to round as well.
3. Round from the starboard lay line or give yourself a boat lengths worth of room over the port lay line if there is any threat of a starboard opponent.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________
4. Attempt to get an opponent by coming in on the starboard lay line, sail fast to minimize distance to opponents.
5. Sail fast to minimize distance to opponents.
6. Sail fast to minimize distance to opponents.
Windward Offset
1. Sail fast
2. Sail fast
3. Slightly slow down, creating a gap between the 2 and 3 and compressing the 4,5,6, do not let anyone pass you
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________
4. After rounding mark 1 aim at the top of the 2 boat length circle around mark 2, this makes it more difficult for the 3 to slow you down. If the 3 comes up to attack, let it happen, continue to sail fast over the top while giving the 5,6 opportunities to get room on the 3.
5. Sail fast
6. Sail fast
Mark 2
1. Round mark 2 and sail fast
2. Round mark 2 and sail fast
3. Set yourself up in the top left quadrant of the mark 2 zone, allow the opponents to sail to you while keeping speed, encouraging them to attempt to sail inside of you without room or have to sail around the outside of you. Not looking for a knockout here, just small bumps to extend the distance between the opponents and the 1,2.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________
4. Sail fast, first of a pair goes outside, sail above the 2 boat length zone to keep your speed up and make it difficult for the 3 to attack. Never attempt to go inside on a mark trap.
5. Sail fast and attempt to round the mark as quickly as possible, trust the 4 to drag the 3 out of the way.
6. Sail fast and attempt to round the mark as quickly as possible.
Downwind
Exiting 2
1. First of a pair goes low, round the mark and sail fast directly to mark 3.
2. Sail high on a reach until your wind shadow will not cover the 1, sail fast to mark 3.
3. Sail high to keep the boats behind you from covering your air. sail fast to the mark, remember that if the opposing team does their job correctly, some of their boats will pass you quickly. Try to keep as many behind you as possible, at least an Ace.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________
4. Try to cover the 3 as much as possible, at least drive them high as they try to stay out of your wind shadow and make them sail extra distance, allowing the 5,6 to sail straight towards the mark.
5. Round the mark and sail as fast as possible to the next mark, attempting to close the gap to the 1, 2.
6. Round the mark and sail as fast as possible to the next mark, attempting to close the gap to the 1,2 without covering the 5.
Open Field
1. Sail straight to mark 3 as fast as possible.
2. Sail fast to mark 3, opposing boat should be closer to attacking the 1, if they get too close be ready to bump them only if needed.
3. Sailing as fast as possible to the mark. Open field downwind is not the place to be attacking boats and slowing too much. Keep as many boats behind you and sail fast towards the marks, looking for opportunities to bump only if the opposing team gets too close to teammates.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________
4. Continue to attempt to slow the 3 by wind shadow or forcing them to sail extra distance, allowing your teammates to sail fast to mark 3.
5. Sail fast to mark 3, attempting to catch the 1,2.
6. Sail fast to mark 3, attempting to catch the 1,2 without slowing the 5.
Mark 3 Approach
1. Sail straight to the mark as quickly as possible.
2. Sail straight to the mark as quickly as possible, be sure not to cover the 1, work together to round quickly.
3. Set yourself up course right of the opponents, giving yourself the right of way and room as you approach the zone.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________
4. Continue to attack the 3 and slow them down in an attempt to let your teammates pass.
5. When chasing first of a pair around the outside does not apply. The 4 will be in a better position to slow the 3 and the 5 will be in a better position to go around the outside fast in an attempt to pass the 3.
6. Sail fast in a way that you are not slowing the approach for 4 and 5.
Mark 3
1. Sail fast and round the mark.
2. Sail fast and round the mark without slowing the 1.
3. Set yourself up in the top right quadrant of mark 3 zone. Hard mark trap on the 4,5,6, make it take as long as possible for the 4,5,6 to attempt to push you around.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________
4. Once the 3 enters the zone ahead of all teammates move focus to pressuring the inside of 3s mark trap, make slowing them secondary unless the 5 is bow out on the 3.
5. Continue to sail as fast as possible around the 3, attempting to get bow out so that when the 3 gybes, you can match it and hook the 3.
6. Round the mark as quickly as possible without slowing your teammates down.
Leeward Offset
1. Sail straight for mark 4 as fast as possible.
2. Sail straight for mark 4 as fast as possible.
3. Sail just fast enough to not allow the opposing boats to get an inside overlap, aim to enter the mark 4 zone in the bottom left quadrant.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________
4. Assume that the 3 will be setting a mark 4 mark trap, aim for the bottom of the mark 4 zone and sail as fast as possible, on the approach to mark 4 in this situation, first of a pair goes around the outside does apply.
5. Sail fast straight to mark 4, you will be pressuring the inside of the mark trap at mark 4.
6. Sail fast straight to mark 4.
Mark 4
1. Round mark 4 as fast as possible.
2. Round mark 4 as fast as possible.
3. Come into the 2 boat length zone low and slow down, forcing the opposing boats to round outside of you. Be sure to keep enough speed to stay bow ahead of the opposing boats.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________
4. Aim below the stern of the 3 and sail as fast as possible. Remember you are purposefully sailing into the wind shadow of an opposing boat, there will be a wind shift, as you sail into their wind shadow be on a close reach course to keep as much speed as possible and push the 3 around the mark.
5. Let the 4 sacrifice themselves to push the 3 around, sail fast, prioritize a good rounding.
6. Sail fast and prioritize a good rounding.
2nd Beat
Exiting 4
1. After a good rounding, put the bow down and focus on speed, giving the 2 room to breathe when they round. When the 3 begins to round, tack, you will tack again when the 2 tacks to become the point of the 3 boat weave. (Its ok to delay the 2nd tack a little to ensure full speed)
2. After a good rounding sail fast, when the 4 begins to round tack and cover the left side of the course.
3. After rounding, sail fast and cover the right side of the course
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________
4. If you are stuck to leeward of the 3, put the bow down and sail fast to attempt to get bow out of the 3. If you are clear behind, tack immediately around mark 4 and sail fast.
5. If the 4 is going right, tack immediately around mark 4. If the 4 tacked left, wait for a healthy lane and tack to go left.
6. No matter what, go right, attempt to get free and clear to the edge.
Open Field
1. Sail fast, extending on the lifted and favored tacks. Being the point, lean to the side with more boats, stay in touch and be ready to come back and help if needed.
2. Sail fast up the left side of the course, leading to the edge, covering the boats on your side and extending on the lifted and favored tacks.
3. Sail fast up the right side of the course, leading to the edge, covering the boats on your side and extending on the lifted and favored tacks.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________
4. Work with the 5 to slow down the boats ahead with tacking duels and splitting the boats ahead.
5. If the 3 follows you after tacking, try to get into a tacking duel with them to slow them down, if not extend left for a few boat lengths and get out of the 3s zone, into a seam, attempting to unbalance.
6. Sail fast up the right side, hoping to come back with starboard advantage, trust your teammates to slow down the leaders.
Finish Approach
1. Continually check in with the 2,3 to make sure they are balanced, be ready to help at the last minute if needed, balance keeping a healthy distance and staying in touch.
2. Keep pin lay line in mind on the left, remember to extend towards the finish and lead to the edges.
3. Keep boat lay line in mind on the right, remember to extend towards the finish and lead to the edges.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________
4. Work with the 5 to bring the 2,3 together in an attempt to unbalance them and create chaos.
5. Work with the 4 to bring the 2,3 together in an attempt to unbalance them and create chaos.
6. Sail fast, coming in on the starboard lay line in an attempt to catch an opponent on starboard.
Finish
1. Communicate with the 2,3 to make sure they a clear ahead. Try to finish with enough space to be out of the way of the 2,3.
2. Sail fast, if the 1 finishes you do not need to balance with the 3, just finish ahead of your pair to guarantee the win.
3. Sail fast, if the 1 finishes you do not need to balance with the 2, just finish ahead of your pair to guarantee the win.
