Team Combos and Roles


Play 1:
Order: 1, 2, X or 1, 3, X
Goal: Obtain, at the least, 1, 2,5, *the 5 is important because it creates an ace
1, 2, 3: Winning Combination; Stable
See 3 boat weave
Balance properly and extend/switch zones if the situation presents itself
1, 2, 4: Winning Combination; Stable
1- sail fast, cover left side of course, keep opposing boat on the left in your zone
2- sail fast, cover the right side of the course, keep opposing boat on the right in your zone
4- sail fast, cover 5 and/or 6 always keeping the ace
1, 2, 5: Winning Combination; Stable
1- sail fast, cover the left side of the course, keep opposing boat on the left in your zone
2- sail fast, cover the right side of the course, keep opposing boat on the right in your zone
5- sail fast, keep the ace
1,2 balance as necessary
1, 2, 6: Winning Combination; Stable
1- sail fast, cover the left side of the course, keep opposing boat on the left in your zone
2- sail fast, cover the right side of the course, keep opposing boat on the right in your zone
6- sail into seams attempting to steal an ace
1,2 balance as necessary
1, 3, 4: Winning Combination: Quasi-Unstable
1- speed passback against the 2
3- sail fast and push the 2 into the passback
4- sail fast, cover 5 and/or 6
1,2,3 and 2,3,4 opportunities may present themselves
1, 3, 5: Winning Combination: Unstable
1- speed passback against the 2
3- sail fast and push the 2 into the passback
5- sail fast, keep the ace
1, 4, 5 opportunities may present themselves
1, 3, 6: Winning Combination; Unstable
1- speed passback against the 2
3- sail fast and push the 2 into the passback
6- sail into seams and attempt to steal an ace
2,3,4 and 1,4,5 opportunities may present themselves
Play 2/ Chasing:
Order: 2, 3, 4 or 2, 3, 5 or 2, x, x
Goal: Obtain a 2, 3, 4 *anytime we do not have the 1 it is an automatic play 2
2, 3, 4: Winning Combination: Stable
2- point in the 3 boat weave, be ready to help a teammate
3- cover most advantaged of the 5,6; balance as necessary
4- cover least advantaged of the 5,6; balance as necessary
*DO NOT pass 1 unless you can promptly convert to 1, 2*
1, 2, x opportunities may present themselves
2, 3, 5: Winning Combination; Unstable
2- push forward
3- speed passback against the 4
5- sail fast and push the 4 into the passback
2, 3, 6: Losing Combination
2- choose between 4/5 , when they are even, stop/slow until 6 becomes 2
3- go after other 4/5 , when they are even stop/slow until 6 becomes 2
6- sail fast between the 2 and 3’s passback to become the 2
*Play usually begins by 2,3 double teaming 4*
Chasing for 1,2,x opportunities
2, 4, 5: Losing Combination
2- Slowing passback against the 3
4- push the 3 into the passback
5- sail fast, while covering the 6
2, 4, 6: Losing Combination
2- Slowing passback against the 3
4- push the 3 into the passback
6- sail fast, trying to steal an ace
*Do lead passback first then execute 2,3,6*
**Remember, you are NEVER out of it until EVERY boat is across the finish line**
3, 4, 5: Losing Combination:
3- sail fast, work with the 4 to break up the 1, 2
4- sail fast, work with the 3 to break up 1, 2
5- sail fast, trying to steal an ace
*Chasing 1, 2, x opportunities may present themselves*
4, 5, 6:Losing Combination:
Messed up, most likely on fundamentals
Play 4:
Order: 1, 4, 5 or 1, 4, 6 or 1, 5, 6
Goal: Obtain a 1, 4, 5
1, 4, 5: Winning Combination; Unstable:
1- stay close to the action happening behind you, there will be opportunities to go play 1, the window to make this conversion happen will be brief
4- Sail fast, push the race forward as fast as possible if the 2 and 3 are aggressively attacking, make your way to the starboard lay to the finish as fast as you can
5- Sail fast, IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO KEEP THE 6 IN YOUR ZONE
If possible, it is important for the 4 and 5 to go to opposite sides of the course and gain leverage on the opponents and focus on sailing fast
1, 4, 6: Losing Combination:
1- keep the 1, keep a healthy distance from the 2, 3 in the open field, can compress the race at marks 3 and 4
4- Slowing passback on the 5
6- Sail fast and push the 5 into the passback
1, 5, 6: Losing Combination:
1- keep the 1, keep a healthy distance from the 2, 3, 4 in the open field, can compress at marks 3 and 4
5- Sail fast, work with the 6 to break up the 2, 3, 4
6- Sail fast, work with the 5 to break up the 2, 3, 4
