My name is [YOUR name] and I am a resident of [YOUR city, state, or town depending on REP]. I’d like to speak with someone about the assault weapons ban. (WAIT IN CASE THEY NEED TO TRANSFER YOU)
I am horrified and outraged by the domestic terrorist attack that took place [in Highland Park/our town] on the fourth of July, as well as the hundreds of other shootings that continue to occur in the United States, week by week.
I am calling to urge you to vote to support gun sense bills (INSERT BILL NAMES YOU WANT TO PUSH FOR SPECIFIC TO THAT REP).
Thank you.

PS. You may have to call a few times to get through. We encourage you to call every day that you can – these offices have larger capacity than state offices and should be prepared to take in high volume of phone traffic – especially the senators.
PPS. If calling feels daunting or intimidating, call after hours and leave a message!!
Illinois:
IL LEGISLATURE – LONGER VERSION:
My name is [YOUR name] and I am a resident of [YOUR CITY AND STATE]. I’d like to speak with someone about the assault weapons ban. (WAIT IN CASE THEY NEED TO TRANSFER YOU)
I am horrified and outraged by the domestic terrorist attack that took place [in Highland Park/our town] on the fourth of July.
I am calling because I want to urge you to pass the Illinois assault weapons ban. I know a state-by-state ban is not a perfect solution, but every step towards a better, safer world is critical. It is unacceptable that the attack in Highland Park was carried out using an assault rifle that was purchased legally in our state. Illinois should serve as a model for other states, especially as we are watching Congress fail to take necessary action on this issue. Illinois should be leading the way, not falling behind other states that have already banned assault weapons including: California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, and New York.
While the definition of an assault weapon varies, as they are generally understood, they are used in 85% of mass shootings. These weapons of mass death and destruction do not belong in civilian hands and do not meet the spirit nor intent of the second amendment by any means. Assault and semi assault weapons leave all of us vulnerable and unsafe, no matter how many “good guys with guns” are around – as seen at our parade.
Freedom is not the ability to own any gun for any reason, it is the ability to go to a parade or a movie theater or a synagogue or school without the fear of being eviscerated. These shootings happen in too many hometowns, and this time it was ours. We must act now.
Thank you.
For Rep. Bob Morgan: Thank you for being a co-sponsor of HB 5522. As you may know, Governor Pritzker has called for a special session in September to vote on this bill and I’d like to encourage you to keep pushing until this bill is on his desk to be signed into law. Thank you!

For Sen. Julie Morrison: Legislators in the Illinois House have proposed HB 5522 and we need companion legislation in the Illinois Senate. I’d like to encourage you to sponsor and push for that legislation until it is on Governor Pritzker’s desk to be signed into law! Thank you!
