Hello, I'm Clayton Shelvin, Executive Director of the Freight. Standing on this historic stage, I'm struck by the thousands of stories, songs, and moments of connection that have happened right here since 1968.
Our roots truly do run deep in Berkeley. For 56 years, we've been more than a venue – we've been a living archive of musical traditions, a classroom for curious minds, and a gathering place where community happens through music.
As we close 2024, the Freight is experiencing remarkable momentum. Our concerts are vibrant, our education programs are growing, and our commitment to preserving and sharing musical traditions is stronger than ever.
Today, we're launching "Our Roots Run Deep," our end-of-year campaign. Like any healthy tree, we continue to grow, reach higher, and provide shelter for our community. Your support makes this possible.
Over the next seven weeks, you'll hear stories about the many ways the Freight impacts our community – through education, artistic excellence, and cultural preservation. And we invite you to share your Freight story too.
The Freight belongs to all of us. Join us in ensuring our roots continue to nurture and strengthen our community for generations to come.
[End on warm smile]
