Basic proposal
The Unjournal is considering building, curating and hosting resources listing and discussing
Research in our domain (~quant. social science/economics) that shows potential for strong global impact Research that we are currently considering commissioning for Unjournal evaluation Research areas
These are indexed by field and cause/outcome area. E.g. “the economics of transformative technical change”. We may focus first on areas that seem relatively neglected in academia, such as “social science and economics informing animal welfare”.
As an example, see the Zotero list (work in progress) Platforms and tools
We will try to leverage existing recommendation engines, tools, and platforms, and integrate with existing initiatives where possible. These may include, e.g.
Open Philanthropy ‘living literature reviews’ (e.g., ) Collaborations and interaction
We will consider ways to make this interactive, allowing users, to suggest, discuss, and vote on prioritizing particular pieces of research.
Notes on automating a ‘recommendation engine’ as an input
Automate/AI tools to find, curate, & share research that is either
In one of our explicitly defined categories (e.g., all NBER work mentioning animal welfare) ML classifies as 'likely to be impactful/relevant' given our previous 'labeled data' (labeled in our Coda research database) May involve:
Searching/parsing web sites (like the ) Leveraging existing tools and updated databases like Our shared Zotero space; ResearchRabbit, Semantic Scholar. Crossref As well as Elicit and other AI-powered tools Prefer free and open-source tools
For the ‘publicly shared’ (redacted) list of research we are considering/evaluating or already/evaluated, see
