Notes! Immanuel - God with Us

12/9 - Being with Jesus brings Joy from Healing.
Jesus throughout his time doing ministry and bringing the kingdom to earth was spent doing one thing more than anything else. Not saying this is the most important thing, but it had to have been one of the most time consuming things.

Healing. He healed people. People came up to Jesus to receive healing, mainly physical. Which is just a wonderful sight to see.
We read of a woman who had a disease where she constantly bled for 12 years. She just touched the hem of his garment. Swiped His rob and was clean.
There was a man with leporasy. He came to Jesus asking if He would be willing to heal him. Then Jesus healed him.
There were even people Jesus raised from the dead.

This is alive and true right now. Jesus is healing people through His people.
The book of Acts is this book of the Bible right after Jesus leaves earth to be in heaven.
People with the power of God’s spirit doing all of these amazing things. They healed people of the physical issues in their life.

There are things in this life that rob us of joy.

There are people, events, and times that rob us of the joy we can have in the Lord.
When the Sheppards were in the field as Jesus was being born and God came in the flesh. An angel of the Lord appeared to them. Super scary looking creatures
They share the great news. The best news. They share that the savior the world is here.
Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.
The good news of the Gospel brings joy. I always worry about this because I was told that life is about being happy. Even before being a believer, but even more. And there is some truth in that, but my gosh the Kingdom of God is here as it is in heaven and I don’t think there is a lot of frowning there...
I think there is pure, uninterrupted, and playful JOY! There are no more tears in heaven. You will be whipped clean of your pain, there will be no more death for us to mourn over, and there will be just the JOY of the LORD.
Good news that will cause JOY for the people.
Being with God is available to all!

And since that Joy can only be found in the Lord as a result we end up on our knees in full blown worship of God!

Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
14“Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

Worship is a way of being with God and connecting to Him in a joyful way.

Acts 16:25-26

25 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. 26 Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose.

Being with God breaks the Chains of sin in your life! Joy comes from Freedom, not the freedom of doing whatever you want, no. Freedom comes from breaking the bondage of being a slave to sin. Freedom is following Jesus, making Him Lord of your life. Freedom is having a master that loves you, that is for you, and that does take, take, take. But lays His life down for you.

JOY is found in Freedom through Jesus.
Be free of that bondage.
It may be overtime you are freed or it might be tonight when we ask the Holy Spirit to remove that bondage in your life.

You don’t have to live in that bondage anymore. I have learned this the hard way you guys, but you can have freedom tonight. It does not come from your hard work. It does not come from you pretending.

It comes from you being in the present of the Holy God. It comes from you Being with God. It comes from Him.

Before this Paul and Silas got absolutely beat. They were destroyed by these towns people who were mad because the Gospel was stopping this town from making money off of sin, they were using this girl who was abused by a demon and making profit off of her. Paul brought the Gospel to her life, Jesus healed her, and everyone went insane. Beating them so close to death then throwing them in jail

This is where we will see Revival happen. The heartbeat of God beating in the chest.
In that prison cell it was not just Paul and Silas, but the prisoners around them were set free. Then we see this Roman guard who is ordered to kill himself if he fails and Paul stops him and brings the gospel to Him. Starting a ripple effect that lead to the guards family being saved.

This is the log that gets put on the fire for God to change the lives of people. There revival is happening in this world today. There is revival happening in Lancaster county. There is REVIVAL happening at Reality church. There will be revival in Reality Student Ministry!

There is healing in Jesus. The peace beyond understanding doesn’t come like magic, it comes from being in the presence of the almighty God. Knowing He cares and that He is for you when you put your trust and follow Him.

Jesus heals us from those things that are robbing our Joy. Even if the sins were our fault they can be brought to Jesus for healing.
My time with God this past week was spent healing me areas of pride.
This way of healing can be intense for some situations, but it can also kill something before it takes root in your life which is a big portion of following Jesus.

When I sat with God this week I looked at an area that has very tender and painful. I get pretty emotional when it comes up or think about it. It revolves around this pride issue I have. The pride I have and what you do is simple.

Start with - Why did it bother me when someone makes a comment about “X,Y,Z”?
So this can vary.

Ex: Why did it make me mad when I wasn’t invited to my friends, but everyone else did?
Answer - I want to be included.
Why?
I want to no be left alone
Why?
Because I feel like I am missing out
Why does that bother you?
Because I feel like I am going to end up alone and this is how my life is going to be for forever.

Bingo ... now we are there. This is where Jesus does the healing. You present this fear, worry, pain, damage from sin in your life and you hand it over to Jesus.
Ask Him this question “Is this true about me?” (I am a loner/loser/failure)
Will you heal me?
Look at the thousands of people that asked Jesus for healing.
He might say, “what does my word say?”.
He might give you something to do.
For me it was forgiving people and forgiving myself.
He may just bring absolute peace. That peace that is beyond understanding
I have felt this in my own life. In moments of emotional outpour I get this sense of His presence being like, what I have described as, a drink of refreshing water and a cup of warm coffee at the same time.

You get more of Him because you don’t have the sin or the foothold of the enemy on you.

Start off with really praying and recognizing Jesus is there with us in the room.

Sitting in an ice bath is something that brings healing to your body. Along with Heat applied to an area because warmth brings blood which brings oxygen. This is a healing process for our bodies.

When we go to counseling we get healing for our mind

I look back on my life before Jesus and there was just darkness and not a lot of hope. There was this idea that it will always get better, but not really.
You guys have seen it in your life. We have this innocents to us then the world is revealed to us. We want so badly for the world to be good and for people to be good, but is that just not the case

Healing is brought when you are with Jesus. There is a transformation that happens and part of that is from discovering our sin, destroying by bringing it to light, and then healing from it by Jesus.

Did you know that a fish out of water doesn’t know it’s dying and can’t breathe?
Apparently they don’t have those types of pain receptors and so their brains don’t pick up that they are dying.

That is us with sin. We have been blinded by the god of the air Paul tells us which he is saying that the enemy has blinded to us what is killing us.
We may know certain sin that is in our life, but there are many more that we are not aware of the God is trying to reveal in us so that we can hand it over to Him.
In the book of Isaiah you see this amazing vision of Isaiah standing before the throne of God and all of these angels are worshipping King Jesus. But Isaiah is so blinded by the righteousness of God and he is so convicted of his sins in that moment because He was in the presence of God.

Jesus sees that you are being strangled by sin. We all are in some capacity or another.

12/16 - Being With Jesus brings Rest to your Soul

How many of us are just tired all the time. We are constantly doing and doing.

Even if we are doing things for God, we are doing and doing.

14Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. 15He will be eating curds and honey when he knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right, 16for before the boy knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right, the land of the two kings you dread will be laid waste. 17The Lordwill bring on you and on your people and on the house of your father a time unlike any since Ephraim broke away from Judah—he will bring the king of Assyria.”

Throughout the story of the Bible we see the God who created us wanting and “Being” with His people.
In the Garden you see God “in the coolness of the day” walking with Adam. His original design was to “Be with” us.
He was with Moses as the Burning Bush and with Him onto of Mount Sani.
Then He came in the form of a cloud for the people of Isreal, until He was in the tabernacle.
Then Solomon helped to build the Temple where God presence was.
Fast forward, Jesus came to us to BE WITH US. As it says in this text He is Immanuel! God WITH US.
NOW, we have the Holy Spirit dwelling in us and God is WITH us.

I think we struggle with this idea because we cannot see God. We don’t have a physical representation of a man doing miracles and telling us about our past. We just don’t have that.

Then we hear that God is with us and that we shouldn’t be afraid.
We should have faith that God is with us and will comfort us.

“Well then, how does that work?”

Also “Why did Jesus come in this way to be with us”. Why does that matter?

Tonight we are going to look at the importance of “Being With God”. Then at the end in small groups you guys are going to “Be With God”.

What if Jesus was in this room right now?
What would you do?
How would you act?
What emotions would you have?

What if I told you He is in this room right now?

Matthew 18:20
“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

But how come it doesn’t feel that way. I know when someone is here and I can talk with them and hear what they have.
Why are there time we pray to God and it feels like we are tying a message to a balloon and it’s floating up.
Why am I not experiencing God the way that people church talk about I should?

Some of you may feel that you have experienced God, but it’s here and there. That feeling goes away after camp or a good night at youth group/church.

I strongly believe that we have so many people who have a lacks faith and have a surface level relationship with the Lord.

Who is with us???
God is, but Who is God?
I am
Creator
Love
Father
Yahweh
Lord
Fortress
Protector
Sea splitter
Defeater of Death
King of Kings
Bondage breaker

So we may not know this or see this regularly. We may be like these are things I know or maybe you say this. But where is God then? Where is the great God that created the mountains and does all of these things.

You might say “I would have noticed that if He was here”.

Let me ask you something ... Do you notice the protection that the military provides?
Do you notice the government working as you go throughout your day?

How many times have you driven past a mountain and didn’t think twice of it or because you were looking at your phone you weren't even looking out the window.

When I was in Colorado for my internship I was coaching and we would go to the most beautiful places and we would see these AMAZING scenery with the mountains in the background. It was mind blowing how beautiful.
Everyone from there was like “Oh yeah, forgot they were there”.

This is why we slow down our lives to SEE and BE WITH Jesus. Because we can casually go to church and live in a Christian household and we drive past the Glory and Wonder of God!!!!
It reminds me of the people that were healed of Jesus. The majority, if not all of them, were not named in the Bible. “Man with Leprosy” “Woman who bled” “Paralytic man”. That is what the Bible referred to them as and there were thousands that were healed and changed by Jesus, but who's names do you see in the Bible. The disciples ....
Why do you think these were the people that were written down in the Bible? Maybe because they did stop for one moment with Jesus, but they wanted to live a life following Him and “BEING WITH HIM”.

How many of us just pray for the “stuff” or come to Youth group/Church and say I am good. I saw Jesus this week. I heard about Him.
Could you imagine if I did that with my wife. Drove past her like its 2019 Covid Quarantine and it’s a drive by birthday party.
I drove by yelling out the window “Hey I love y......” And I drive off and that's my interaction with Jesus.
Dude, how much more terrible is it that the God who created everything, who is love, and died for our sins so that we can “BE WITH HIM” and we just have something in our IG that Christian or we just go to church or just “thank him for our meal and that we didn’t fail chemistry”

I don’t say this to tell you that you’re going to make a million dollars, your prays will all be answered, and that you won't struggle with mental health. But what I will say is that your life WILL get better when you are with God.

Psalm 1
Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
2but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
3That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.

Philippians 4:4
4Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!

Matthew 11:28-30
28“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

There is the struggle and tension of just wanting God’s stuff more than we want God. That is the pressure of being in a fallen world. Wanting God’s stuff over Him is a dangerous place because God allows that to happen. He allows us to give into these wants that we have.

But there is shallowness to life when just get stuff from your dad, right? It’s a greta thing to get those gifts, but it is so awesome to have that love that is from that person and deepen the connecting with the person who gave you those gifts.

or maybe you have never experienced God and never encountered the Lord.
