Teams are fascinating, complex adaptive systems of human interaction around a shared purpose! They represent opportunities for Adventurers to deepen their understanding of Complexity by “Learning by Doing” or taking on real-world, complex challenges that ignite and unite a small group of people.

At Complexity Adventures, there are two types of teams broadly:

Private Teams

During each Summit, Adventurers will have the opportunity to join or form their own team around an idea, activity, or issue where insights from Complexity can be applied to influence the outcomes. Some intentionally last only for the Summit weekend, while others continue from one Summit to the next. Several private teams are still operating years after the first Complexity Adventures event.
Adventurers may start a Private Team at a Complexity Adventures event or interface a pre-existing team with the community. Private Teams may relate to or serve as contractors to . They may be run or advised by . The outcomes of their teamwork are often as diverse as our Adventurers themselves - some teams incorporate as for-profit entities such as C-CORPs or LLCs, some public academic papers, some apply for grants, some are ongoing social clubs with little formal structure, etc.
For Private Teams, Complexity Adventures offers resources like tooling, processes, and mentors to help teams get their footing and make their way forward. Our community is particularly helpful at supporting global, remote teams. During Summits, Complexity Adventures Organizers and Guides create interactions to help teams raise awareness and find teammates and, for ongoing teams, to share their work and insights.

Community Teams

To take a turn at steering the community-led ship that is Complexity Adventures, consider contributing to one of the responsible for things like outreach, fundraising, or organizing Summit events.
Community Teams are led by around various specific purposes and they operate in public. Third party contractors engaged by Complexity Adventures proceed through relationships to Community Teams to fulfill their various functions as well.
Because of their role in the operations and activities of Complexity Adventures, Community Teams are also excellent opportunities to apply the latest insights from Complexity to the very real-world challenge of shaping the trajectory of such a dynamical and globally-distributed organization.
Put another way: you can think of Community Teams as a group of Adventurers fulfilling a purpose to benefit the community through structured and public operations that enable drop-in participation as a means of learning Applied Complexity!
