Idea to engage in multiple conversations with older adults and have the youth decide what stories they think are important to tell from their conversations and what they have been learning/find valuable about intergenerational relationships
Possible organizations to reach out to - Cory’s housing contacts, Elaine Welch from Mobility Matters
Theme 6 - It can be particularly significant when opportunities are created for two-way inter-generational contributions and inter-generational honoring. When it can be acknowledged that the skills and values of younger generations are carrying forth (in unique ways) the legacies of those of older generations, this can provide an antidote to the intergenerational dislocation that collective trauma often causes within communities.
Nine key principles which can help to build intergenerational alliances:
Locating problems in their broader social context
Eliciting special knowledges
Richly describing actions of common purpose
Tracing storylines of mutual contribution
Creating room to move around the concept of ‘respect’
Sharing skills and positively implicating others
Using documentation and different mediums
Hosting ceremonies of definition
Enabling contribution
I am thinking about this core theme of food that also seems to be developing, with the food giveaway, food connecting people, food projects in India, Tanzania, Uganda. What if we were to build on this theme of food as a way to bridge generations. Building on the tree of life, kite of life, river of life narrative metaphor approaches, what if we were to think of recipes of life that help build community connectedness and strengthen intergenerational relationships. It also helps us see the rich cultural heritage in our community.

@Rob Kershaw
Just playing with an idea, need to think it out more tomorrow. Might be too complicated.
I sent this document to the global partners to see which approaches/themes might be most relevant across the cultures (and doable, of course adapted for local capacities/resources).

I am most drawn to Symbols of Hope (Nehemia Community Foundation), Outsider Witnesses, and Tree of Life for relevance and connection to strengthening intergenerational relationships and community connectedness. With the global teams they are interested in reducing ageism and increasing intergenerational collaboration.
