original ground plan idea/blocking brainstorming

+ any other discoveries / notes I have

typed notes I wrote here so you don’t have to read my handwriting:

everyone should theoretically be able to see the important moments
do I put something on the screen? a wall w/ a painting? Paris themed
the wall will give bond something tangible to interact w/
or do I leave it blank?
I think I want something else [[set piece]] near the screen but also maybe not? The only thing I like for right there would be the piano but it’s impossible to move

other blocking/story brainstorming:

I think emphasizing how far apart they are in their relationship is really important; I like the idea of there being this “line” that Jenny can’t cross - because she’s the one who cheated - in their relationship that becomes physical in this scene
Elias is the active person in the scene
He’s the one who gets to cross the line, probably somewhere near the top of page 76
Jenny knows immediately who Elias is talking about because the brain zaps started after she was caught cheating
this knowledge, even though the audience doesn’t know until the moment, has been danced around the entire play.

rehearsal discoveries:

the main thing that kind of arose in storytelling while we worked through the blocking was the power in physically disconnecting characters onstage, even if they’re close to each other
there’s a lot of backs toward each other and talking to but not at the other person
also, Jenny’s avoidance. Bond had a lot of instinct to move away from Quewanna when they got closer, which I think totally worked
Jenny is so terrified of him being upset because she knows she’s in the wrong, even when she’s playing the victim
the physical line that bond can’t cross was a good starting point, for sure, but I didn’t end up staying super strict to that- it evolved more into that disconnect and discomfort with being in each other’s personal space, even though they’re in a couple
we did cut the interaction with massaging the back of Elias’ neck, though, to emphasize the disconnect + also for time

from my original plan of the set, we only shifted the coffee table over a little bit so the two actors would have a bit more space to move
