Goal: Provide step-by-step instructions for creating a Coursera account and applying for financial aid.

Context: This allows eligible students to take Coursera courses for free.

When to Use: When interested in Coursera courses but unable to pay fees.

Instructions: Create Coursera Account

Open web browser and go to

www.coursera.org⁠

⁠

Click on the blue "Join for Free" button at top right

Enter first name, last name, and email address in pop-up form

Select preferred language

Click area of study to reveal extensive list of options

Select field(s) you are interested in

Check box if interested in teaching instead of learning

Review preferences summary on right

Click the large blue "Join for Free" button at bottom

Check email inbox for verification link

Click verification link to confirm email address

Set password when prompted

Browse Coursera course catalog and select desired course

Scroll down page and click "Financial Aid Available" link

⁠

Click blue "Continue to Application" button in pop-up

⁠

Select course you need aid for in dropdown menu

⁠

Provide background details in online form

Write at least 150 word statement on financial situation and career goals

Mark $0 for amount you can pay each month

Paste same essay for relevancy question

Check boxes to agree to Terms and Conditions

Complete CAPTCHA challenge

⁠

⁠

Click blue "Submit" button for application

Await decision email within 15 days
