The Library also provides instructions for you can use and share with developers. These instructions are for use when requesting access to an eBook through VitalSource.
Make sure once logged into VitalSource at all times, you are within the “Faculty Sampling” tab. If not sure, click “Faculty Sampling” across the top. To create an account, click “Sign In,” then “Create an Account” at the bottom. Input personal information (make sure to use .ccis.edu email account). Identify yourself as an Instructor. Click “Create Account.” It might take a few days for the account to be created. The system will let you know in an email. Once your account is created, you can browse available texts. The easiest way to do this is either typing in keywords in the search bar or clicking “Browse Subjects.” Again, make sure you are always using the Faculty Sampling feature. If you’re not sure, click “Faculty Sampling” button to make sure.
To access faculty sampling for your identified texts:
Enter the text’s ISBN in the search bar. 9780520932074 Input “SOCI 412” as course name and number; “25” for course enrollment; and “May 1, 2023” as course start date. (Update to reflect your course and term.) Click “Complete Your Request.” You will receive an email notification requesting verification. Make sure to click “Add to Library” in that email. The email invite expires after 5 days. Once added to your library, access the texts by clicking “Janet’s Bookshelf.” If Faculty Sampling is not available
If Faculty Sampling is not available, or the developer requests a hard copy of the text, first direct them to the publisher's website. They can usually get a free inspection copy delivered to them. They will need to fill out a form indicating their address and might need proof of employment (the development contract usually works for this). Follow the instructions provided by the library. If an inspection copy is not available, email the Director of Operations (Carmela), identify the textbook, and provide the developer’s mailing address. This option should be used only when other options are not available, as we will need to purchase the text and mail it to them.
