Rubric Best Practices

All criteria should include a “Level 0” worth zero points. This level will typically include “No submission or submission is plagiarized.”
The late policy should never be stated within the rubric. This will allow the instructor to grade based on the course’s late policy.
The overall scores should have the same number of levels as the performance levels in the rubric. If there are 3 performance levels for each criterion, there should be 3 levels for the overall score.
Each rubric should include 3-5 performance levels.
The overall score levels should be consistent across the course in terms of percentages.
5-level rubric, 90-80-70-60-0
4-level rubric, 90-80-70-0
3-level rubric, 90-70-0
