We have a diverse student population. Our students are located around the world in a variety of settings. Be mindful of accessibility requirements in both course design and development.
Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) Checklist
To ensure accessibility, all courses will be self- and peer-checked against the WCAG 2.1 guidelines checklist, found in the “Dev Form Templates” folder located in Phase 0 documentation. A course is not considered complete until it reaches 98% accessible as indicated by this WCAG 2.1 checklist
Courses do not currently reach 100% accessibility because, at this time, audio descriptions for video content are not available; though videos with substantive visual content are very uncommon.
Best practice is to refer to this checklist throughout course design and development.
Tools and Techniques
An site with resources, techniques, and tools to assist IDs in creating accessible content is available. Accessibility Design Considerations
Visual presentations must have a contrast ratio of at least 3:1 against adjacent colors.
All visual presentations, such as infographics, must include long descriptions in order to be accessible to screen readers.
Design with colorblind users in mind. Avoid relying on color to convey meaning. Any color designation should be supplemented with a caption or an icon so that the object preserves its function no matter what happens with colors ( 2018). Accessibility Design Resources
