Exception

Today unfolded like any other day, except for one decision that deviated from my usual routine. As someone who thrives on planning and control, I typically dislike unplanned events. However, today I accepted a spontaneous invitation to an online seminar.
Initially, the session was off-putting due to the MC's constant promotion of upcoming courses and speaker information. I considered leaving at least twice. Yet, my interest in the main speaker's topic—critical thinking and emotional intelligence, subjects I am passionate about—compelled me to stay.
Ultimately, my decision was rewarding. The speaker's insights were captivating, and I gained valuable knowledge from the examples shared. Reflecting on this, I realized what I might have missed had I adhered to my habit of declining such invitations or exiting early due to the MC's style.
What did I learn from today's experience? Occasionally breaking our routines and embracing exceptions can be beneficial. It can introduce us to new perspectives, ideas, and lessons we might not have anticipated. As a friend once said, “A system that operates flawlessly might not be a good one. It suggests playing it safe and lacking value. Perfection isn't always the best measure.”
Therefore, I've decided to incorporate some exceptions into my weekly routine. I'll engage with people outside my usual preferences, explore different genres of books, and listen to new types of music.
