✅ What Attendees Enjoyed Most
🎯 Content & Format
Variety of talks (Industry-led and inspirational), topics, and session formats
Half-hour talks were appreciated by some, while asking for
Grassroots vibe and local Alberta-based speakers
Practical, high quality/in-depth workshops.
Speakers were well-prepared and engaging
👥 Community & Networking
Opportunity to meet new people and reconnect with peers
Buzz and energy of the event
Great sense of community and excitement for a local UX conference
Positive and welcoming atmosphere from everyone involved.
📍 Venue & Amenities
Great location and venue.
Lots of food and snack options.
Free refreshments appreciated.
Sparkling water and pop were well-stocked (bottled water ran out).
🛠️ What Could Be Improved
🔊
Audio / Tech
Audio issues in keynote, multipurpose room, and some classrooms
Tech issues during keynote disrupted experience
Ensure all speakers, regardless of room size, use microphones
🕒
Session Timing & Structure
More time needed between sessions.
Talks often ran over time, impacting next sessions
30-min sessions were too short for depth or Q&A
Suggested 45–60 mins per session with fewer overlaps
Sessions overlapped too much; hard to attend all desired content
Longer breaks between sessions, especially before after-party
📢
Speaker & Program Management
No recordings or slide sharing disappointed many attendees
Speakers onboarding needs to include maps
🧭
Wayfinding & Signage
Venue was hard to navigate (Platform Calgary)
People didn’t know where keynote or lunch was
East Annex was the most asked-about room
Map wasn’t clearly accessible; many had to “hunt” for it (not sure what it means)
Recommend printed maps and more signage
🍽️
Food & Beverage
Food/snack location was hidden; people couldn’t find it
Snacks available all day, though email said lunch only—caused confusion
Lineups for food were long—need multiple lines
Lack of gluten-free and allergy-friendly options
Café was closed; attendees wanted coffee onsite
Coffee placement (e.g. in multipurpose room) could improve visibility
👥
Networking Opportunities
Not enough structured or spontaneous networking time
Sessions overlapped with prime networking opportunities
Suggestions: 10-minute networking breaks between sessions
Dedicated time or activities to facilitate mingling
Heylo app was helpful but not a full substitute for in-person time
Heylo app needed more engagement and monitoring.
🧾
Logistics & Communication
Friday workshops weren’t clearly communicated during ticket sales
Difficult to find schedule online—email saved the day
Website lacked clarity (FAQ missing info on recordings, food, speakers)
Printed schedule during event was most helpful—keep that
No group ticket attendee list; scanning issues for late arrivals
No clear plan for speaker guests, facilitators, or invited guests
Volunteers wanted more clarity in orientation and task roles
Room layout in multipurpose room wasn’t great for networking or comfort
Some rooms were too small for the audience they received, which meant that sessions where not close when they where full.
