Why the switch?

Switching to Discord allows us to bring some extremely helpful features to the wishlist process,

Wishlist Trackers⁠

and

Private Gifter Chats⁠

- more on these below! FB is also creepy AF, so the less data we can give them, the better.

Wishlist Trackers

Within the Wishlist Hub server in Discord, each individual has their own wishlist channel (just like they did in FB Messenger). However, each wishlist channel is also connected to a Google sheet - aka Wishlist Tracker.

Anything posted to a person’s wishlist channel will automatically be added to their corresponding Wishlist Tracker. Here’s the important part, no one can access their own Wishlist Tracker. This allows gift-givers to easily determine via the Gift Trackers who will be gifting which gifts without the recipient knowing!

Each Wishlist Tracker has a Gift Claimee field. When you put your name in the Gift Claimee field, you are telling other gift-givers that you are getting this gift for the recipient. If you prefer people not to know you are getting someone a gift but still want to claim it and ensure no one else does, you can simply put “Claimed” in the Gift Claimee field for that item.

Multiple Gift Claimees

There are circumstances where multiple claimees can claim a gift:

Gift givers decide to pitch in to get a gift

Gifts that be gifted multiple times - food/treats, for example.

Accessing Wishlist Trackers

There are a few ways to access a person’s Wishlist Tracker.

You can find the link to someone’s Wishlist Tracker within the description of their wishlist channel and/or their gifter chat channel. On mobile, this can be accessed by tapping the channel name at the top of the screen.

The link to each person’s wishlist tracker is also pinned to their wishlist and gifter chat channels.

NOTE: Accessing Wishlist Trackers does require you to log into a Google account initially. However, you should only need to do this once. After that, you can access all Gift Trackers (besides your own) right from within Discord.

Additionally, you can view the sheets right from within the Discord native browser. However, to apply edits to the sheets via a mobile device, you will need to

download the Google Sheets app⁠

If you are unable to access someone’s wishlist tracker, you can simply request access.

You can also message Dakota directly and request access. If you do, be sure to provide your email address. Note: you’ll want to ensure this email address is associated with a Google account.

Adding gifts to another person’s Gift Tracker

You are welcome to add gifts you have or plan to get for someone to their Gift Tracker to ensure that no one else gets it for them. Don’t worry; items added directly to someone’s Gift Tracker will not be shared with their Discord channel. Wishlist data is only received from Discord.

Gifter Chats

Every wishlist channel has a corresponding private Gifter Chat channel. As the name implies, Gifter Chats are for gifters only. Like Wishlist Trackers, the recipient does not have access to this channel. This enables gifters to easily and securely collaborate and discuss gift ideas.

What happens to my FB wishlist?

Stop posting to your FB Messenger wishlist! Posts made to FB Messenger will not be added to your gift tracker. Additionally, everything you have posted to your FB wishlist channel in the past year has already been migrated over to your Discord wishlist channel for you. 🙂

The process to post to Discord is exactly the same.
