Senior Designer / Animator

is a creative studio that produces projects of all types for agencies, brands, and a variety of other clientele. We’re a highly collaborative team and are looking for employees who are driven and instinctively collaborative.

We are seeking a passionate artist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong portfolio showcasing expertise in exceptional design and animation, with a diverse skillset that includes: 3D modeling, texturing, lighting, and rendering; 2D animation workflows; and a keen eye for detail and bringing concepts to life. You will collaborate with designers, animators and creative directors to produce high-quality assets for a variety of projects.

Animated videos and campaigns
AR/VR/Immersive experiences
Pitches and Presentations
Systems and toolkits
UX / Web

Responsibilities:
Design / Art
Bring a strong, distinctive creative point of view to every project
Strong design sense and an ability to vocalize creative opinions and realize concepts
Push visual storytelling through concept development and visual exploration during early project phase
Translate abstract creative direction into bold, clear design solutions
Balance innovation with project/client needs and practical production constraints
Take risks and propose unexpected ideas to elevate the creative bar
Strong attention to detail and quality
Technical Skills
Proficient in modeling, texturing, rigging, animating, rendering and compositing
Proficiency in Cinema 4D/Redshift and the Adobe Creative Suite.
Strong skills in modeling, UV mapping, texturing, lighting, and rendering
Interest in working with new tools and emerging spaces, like AI / AR / VR and immersive technologies
Strong project and file organization and an ability to work within the shop’s established file-/archival-systems
Experiment with new formats, styles, and storytelling approaches
This list is not exhaustive and will evolve as the role develops with the company
Team Collaboration & Mentorship
Collaborate closely with creative directors, animators, and designers to bring ideas to life
Share works-in-progress with team leads and iterate to drive projects forward, meeting goals and deadlines
Participate in project planning, R&D, and problem-solving sessions
Ability to manage multiple projects, communicate effectively, and take direction
Provide mentorship and guidance to interns and more junior staff
Problem-Solving
Identify and solve design challenges, offering creative solutions
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in digital media arts or a related field
7+ years of experience in a relevant role/field
Strong portfolio showcasing a range of design skills
Excellent knowledge of art and design principles
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Cinema4D/Redshift, Substance Painter / Z-brush. Experience with Realtime Rendering (for example Unity, Unreal) and scripting (for example Python, C++) a plus.
Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects
Strong attention to detail and a passion for creating visually stunning designs

Black Math is headquartered in Boston. We also have studio space in Portland, ME, Richmond, VA, and New York, NY. We’re open to candidates based in any of these locations, but please know that in order to foster a culture of growth and collaboration we require 3 in-studio days per week. We have a flexible PTO policy and bank of additional remote days that we’ll be excited to review with you if we move forward with the interview process.
