Africa Mathematics Seminar (AfMS) Concept Note

The Purpose of AfMS

The main goal of AfMS is to build mathematical networks across Africa and showcase African mathematical talent. This means speakers will mostly hail from Africa or strongly relate to African mathematics. The organising team will invite distinguished speakers now and then for networking and research exchange with the rest of the world.

The Audience of AfMS

Researchers in CoRE-Math
Graduate students in CoRE-Math
Other persons interested in CoRE-Math
AfMS is a part of the departmental seminar series and the PhD programmes.

New contact person AfMS

Alex T

Committee for the seminar

One representative for each African node plus a few Europeans.

Frequency of the Seminar

We aim to arrange at least one seminar per month.
The departments will suggest X seminars annually, and the research groups will suggest Y seminars annually.

Things to sort out

Who will broadcast the seminar?
What would be a suitable day and time?
Should we create a mailing list? Could we use Jared’s list as a starting point?
Should we have an annual CoRE-Math symposium?
